I recently wanted to look at my food intolerances in a Family Constellations exercise. The representative for “food intolerances” really did not want me to suffer, but also felt no connection to me personally. The facilitator felt that food intolerance was a distraction, but we didn’t have time to explore that piece further.
How often do we focus on the thing right in front of us without realizing there might be something else going on beneath the surface?
Drinking like your father, perhaps as a way of staying connected to him…
Developing a family illness and a deep need to belong…
Carrying your grandmother’s anger, perhaps because it once helped her survive…
We can be so unconscious of the ways we adapt, stay connected to our families, and learn to survive.
Sometimes we don’t see how those same patterns might be affecting the way we live today or that another way is possible.
We may be struggling something we experienced as children, something happening in our family that we sensed but couldn’t understand, or even something that happened long before we were born.
There is so much happening in our unconscious that we never consider. We can spend years trying to figure out a problem filled with stories and psychological thinking without knowing what else might be connected to it in the broader scope of an interconnected Life.
That’s one of the things I find so fascinating about Family Constellations. We get to look at the bigger picture. Many times what comes into view is very different from what we expected. (Like many times...many, many times...I have found myself so blind to what comes up.)
What if there’s more to your story than you realize?
Join me this Thursday for a Family Constellations Circle. You can come with an issue close to your heart, or come to support others as a representative or observer. There is healing for all.
