I've learned that God rarely waits for me to feel ready. 🤍

When I look at where Graceful Balance started and where we are today, I realize how many things I've stepped into without feeling completely prepared.

Opening a practice.
Building a team.
Expanding into new spaces.
Creating opportunities for our community.

There have been plenty of moments when I've wondered…

Am I really qualified for this?
What if it doesn't work?
What if I'm getting ahead of myself?

And sometimes, staying where things felt comfortable would have been so much easier.

But here's what I've learned:

You can be grateful for where God has you and still feel Him inviting you into something new.

And that invitation doesn't always come with confidence.

Sometimes it comes with trembling hands, a million questions, and a willingness to take the next step anyway.

I often come back to 2 Timothy 1:7:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

That doesn't mean we'll never experience fear.

It means fear doesn't have to make our decisions.

And this applies to so much more than building a business.

Maybe for you it's beginning therapy.

Having a difficult conversation.

Setting a boundary.

Trying something you've always wanted to do.

Or believing your life could look different.

You don't have to see the entire path to take the next faithful step.

Some of the most meaningful things in my life began with one decision:

I'll do it afraid.

Not recklessly. Not without wisdom or prayer.

But trusting that sometimes courage comes after taking the first step.

So here's my question for you this Sunday:

What have you been waiting to feel ready for?

Maybe you don't need every answer today.

Just enough faith for the next step.

Healing is holy work. And sometimes so is stepping into the unknown. 🤍

Healing doesn't just happen inside the therapy room. Sometimes it starts with a conversation in our community. 🤍

And this week, our Graceful Balance team has been doing a little traveling!

📍 Gettysburg, PA

On Wednesday evening, Brittany, Alyson, and Morgan had the opportunity to speak at the Gettysburg Library on Understanding Trauma, Anxiety, and the Healing Brain.

Together, they shared about how trauma impacts the brain and nervous system, why anxiety makes sense, and how healing is possible.

Because we believe that when people better understand what's happening in their minds and bodies, they can begin responding to themselves and others with greater compassion.

And sometimes, that understanding is the first step toward seeking support.

📍 Fort Wayne, IN

Meanwhile, our Registered Dietitian, Michelle Tasker, is taking whole-person wellness beyond Pennsylvania!

This weekend, Michelle is speaking at the Flourish Conference at Parkwood Church of God, leading a session titled:

🌿 Discovering God's Purpose for You

She'll be helping women explore how their gifts, stories, experiences, and current seasons fit into God's greater purpose.

We love that Michelle's passion extends beyond nutrition to helping women experience healing and wholeness in body, mind, and soul.

Different locations. Different audiences. One shared heart.

Helping people better understand themselves, experience meaningful healing, and discover the fullness of the life God has given them.

We're incredibly proud of our team for continuing to share their knowledge, gifts, and hearts beyond the walls of Graceful Balance.

Because healing is holy work. And sometimes that work takes us out into the community. 🤍

You don't have to wait until you're overwhelmed to take care of yourself. 🤍

I've noticed something about the way many of us approach stress.

We wait.

We wait until we're exhausted to rest.

Until we're irritable to recognize we're overstimulated.

Until we're anxious to practice grounding.

Until we're completely overwhelmed to finally slow down.

And then we wonder why it feels so difficult to get ourselves back to a place of calm.

But here's something I want you to remember:

Nervous system regulation isn't just about what you do when you're overwhelmed. It's also about how you care for yourself before you get there.

Think of it like this…

You don't wait until your car runs out of gas to fill the tank.

So why do we so often wait until we're running on empty to care for ourselves?

Sometimes the most helpful things are also the simplest.

🌿 Taking a few minutes outside between responsibilities.

🌿 Eating a nourishing meal instead of skipping lunch.

🌿 Getting up and moving after sitting for hours.

🌿 Creating a little quiet in a day filled with noise.

🌿 Connecting with someone who helps you feel supported.

🌿 Making space for prayer, reflection, or simply being still.

None of these things will eliminate every stressor or replace the deeper work of healing.

But small, consistent moments of care can help us build greater awareness of our needs and support our ability to respond to stress.

And here's the part I really want you to hear:

You don't have to earn rest by reaching your breaking point.

You are allowed to slow down before you're exhausted.

You are allowed to take a break before you're overwhelmed.

You are allowed to care for yourself even when everything seems to be going just fine.

So as we head into the weekend, here's your Friday Reset:

Don't wait until your body is begging for rest to give it permission to slow down.

Healing is holy work. And sometimes that work looks like taking care of yourself before you have nothing left to give. 🤍

You can't think your way out of everything your nervous system is experiencing. 🧠🤍

Read that again.

Sometimes we spend so much energy trying to change our thoughts that we forget our bodies are part of the conversation, too.

You might KNOW you're safe, but your heart is still racing.

You might KNOW you need to rest, but your body won't settle.

You might KNOW there's nothing urgent happening, but you still feel on edge.

And then comes the frustration.

Why can't I just calm down?

Why am I reacting this way?

I know better than this.

But here's something important to understand:

Knowing something intellectually and experiencing it physically aren't always the same thing.

Our nervous systems are constantly responding to what's happening around us, drawing on past experiences, current stressors, and signals from our bodies.

And sometimes those responses happen before we've had a chance to consciously think through what's going on.

That's why healing often involves more than changing our thoughts.

Sometimes we need to help our bodies experience safety, too.

Through things like:

🌿 Gentle movement

🌿 Grounding and breathing practices

🌿 Nourishment and restorative sleep

🌿 Supportive relationships

🌿 Therapy that addresses both thoughts and physical responses

🌿 Prayer, stillness, and spiritual connection

Not every strategy works for every person, and regulation isn't about forcing yourself to feel calm.

It's about learning to understand what your body is communicating and responding with compassion rather than criticism.

Your mind and body aren't working against each other. They're constantly communicating.

And when we begin supporting both, we create more opportunities for meaningful healing.

This is why we believe so deeply in whole-person wellness at Graceful Balance.

Because God didn't design us in separate pieces.

Mind. Body. Spirit. Everything is connected. 🤍

When we understand what’s happening in our brains and bodies, healing starts to make a little more sense. 🧠🤍

Tonight, Brittany, Alyson, and Morgan had the privilege of speaking at the Gettysburg Library on Understanding Trauma, Anxiety, and the Healing Brain.

And what a meaningful evening!

We talked about what trauma really is, how our brains and nervous systems respond to stressful experiences, why anxiety makes sense, and perhaps most importantly…

Why healing is possible.

One of the messages we hope everyone walked away with tonight is this:

Your brain can change. Your nervous system can learn new responses. And your past doesn’t have to determine your future.

Through neuroplasticity, supportive relationships, evidence-based approaches like EMDR and Brainspotting, and whole-person care, meaningful healing and growth are possible.

At Graceful Balance, we’re passionate about making mental health education accessible beyond the walls of our offices.

Because sometimes understanding WHY we feel the way we do is an important first step toward learning how to respond differently.

A huge thank you to the Gettysburg Library for inviting us and to everyone who spent their evening learning with us!

We love opportunities to connect with our community, have meaningful conversations, and remind people that there is hope.

Healing is holy work. And we’re grateful to be part of it. 🤍

The more you avoid something that makes you anxious, the scarier it can become. 🧠

Let's talk about why.

When something triggers anxiety, our brain naturally wants to protect us.

So we avoid it.

The difficult conversation.
The social gathering.
The uncomfortable emotion.
The situation that reminds us of something painful.

And here's the thing…

Avoidance often works. At least temporarily.

We feel relief.

Our nervous system settles.

And our brain learns something:

“That must have been dangerous. Good thing we escaped.”

The next time we encounter something similar, our brain may sound the alarm even louder.

And just like that, a cycle begins.

Anxiety → Avoidance → Temporary Relief → More Anxiety.

This is why avoidance can keep us stuck, even when we're desperately trying to feel better.

But here's the good news.

Our brains are capable of learning new responses.

Through safe, supported experiences, we can begin teaching our nervous systems that discomfort doesn't always mean danger.

Sometimes that looks like having the conversation.

Sometimes it's taking one small step toward something we've been avoiding.

And sometimes it means working with a therapist to process the experiences that taught our brains to expect danger in the first place.

Important reminder: This doesn't mean forcing yourself into unsafe situations or confronting trauma before you're ready. Sometimes stepping away is exactly the healthy choice.

Healing involves learning the difference between genuine danger and an alarm system that's become overly sensitive.

And that takes time, patience, and support.

The goal isn't to never feel anxious again. It's to help anxiety stop making all your decisions. 🤍

That's why it matters.

Another reason we’re so proud of our Graceful Balance team! 🧠🤍

Please join us in congratulating Lacey Ausfresser, Christian Life Coach, on completing Brain Health and Neuroscience Coaching 101 through Light University and the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC)! 🎉

And she’s not stopping there! Lacey is already moving forward into the advanced 102 training!

At Graceful Balance, we believe that understanding the brain is an important part of understanding ourselves.

Our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and even the ways we respond to stress are deeply connected.

And that’s one of the reasons we love seeing our team pursue opportunities like this.

Because when we better understand how the brain works, we can help people become more aware of their patterns, develop healthier responses, and take intentional steps toward meaningful change.

Lacey has such a heart for helping women move beyond simply surviving and begin living with greater purpose, confidence, and faith.

This additional education will continue to strengthen the work she already loves doing as a Christian Life Coach.

Faith and neuroscience don’t have to compete. They can beautifully complement one another.

We’re so grateful for a team that continues to learn, grow, and invest in the people we serve.

Congratulations, Lacey! We’re cheering you on as you begin the next level! 🎉🤍

What if we’re so busy waiting for a better season that we’re missing the goodness of this one?

I’ve been thinking about how easily we fall into the habit of waiting.

Waiting until we’re less anxious.

Until the kids are older.

Until work slows down.

Until our marriage feels easier.

Until we’ve healed from the things that hurt us.

Then I’ll enjoy life.

Then I’ll make time for the things I love.

Then I’ll finally feel at peace.

But Scripture reminds us:

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24

Not someday.

Not when everything is figured out.

Today.

And I wonder how much of God’s goodness we miss because we’re so focused on what still needs to change.

The laughter around the dinner table.

The beauty of a fall morning.

A conversation with a friend.

The unexpected moment of peace in an otherwise difficult day.

The little reminders that God is still present, still providing, still working.

I don’t believe God is asking us to pretend everything is wonderful when it isn’t.

There are seasons of real pain, grief, and uncertainty.

But I do believe He’s inviting us to recognize that joy and hardship can exist in the same season.

We can be healing and still be grateful.

We can be grieving and still laugh.

We can be waiting on God and still notice His goodness today.

We don’t have to wait for a perfect life to experience the presence of a perfect God.

So here’s my prayer for us this week:

Lord, open our eyes to the goodness You’ve placed in front of us. Help us stop postponing joy until everything feels right. Teach us to be present, grateful, and willing to receive the gifts of today. Amen.

Don’t miss the life God is giving you while waiting for the life you imagined. 🤍

Healing is holy work. And so is learning to recognize His goodness along the way.

What if we’ve become so focused on healing that we’ve forgotten to live? 🤍

I’ve been thinking about this lately.

In the mental health world, we spend a lot of time talking about what we’re trying to overcome.

The anxiety. The trauma. The unhealthy patterns. The things we’re trying to change.

And that work matters.

But I’ve been wondering…

When do we stop measuring progress only by what’s no longer wrong and start noticing what’s becoming right?

When was the last time you did something simply because it brought you joy?

Laughed until your stomach hurt?

Tried something new?

Enjoyed the life you have, even while there are things you’re still working through?

Jesus tells us in John 10:10:

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

And I keep coming back to that word.

LIFE.

Not just the absence of anxiety or the resolution of trauma.

But meaningful relationships, purpose, connection, faith, laughter, adventure, and joy.

Sometimes we unintentionally make healing another thing we have to accomplish before giving ourselves permission to live.

I’ll be happy when I’m less anxious.

I’ll try that when I’m more confident.

I’ll enjoy life when things settle down.

But what if we don’t have to wait?

Joy doesn’t have to wait until healing is finished.

You can still be processing trauma and experience beautiful moments.

You can still struggle with anxiety and try something new.

You can still have hard days and laugh until you cry.

At Graceful Balance, we’re not simply helping people manage their struggles.

We’re helping them build lives they actually want to participate in.

So today, instead of asking what you still need to fix, ask:

“What part of my life have I been putting on hold until I feel better?”

And take one small step toward living it.

Healing is holy work. But so is living the life you’re healing for. 🤍
