While summer has wrapped up for the year, PAI-Connect fit in one more adventure before the Minnesota State Fair closed its gates!

During the visit, participants stopped to meet one of their favorite Twin Cities radio hosts, Falen, and took pictures together. From there, they continued exploring the fairgrounds, visiting local vendors, enjoying their favorite fair foods, and trying a few new ones along the way.

It was a full day of exploring and enjoying everything that makes the Great Minnesota Get-Together so special!

PAI-Parkway spent a morning exploring the Twin City Model Railroad Museum in St. Paul! Participants checked out the museum’s interactive displays, model train layouts, railroad artifacts, and detailed recreations of the Twin Cities from different time periods. It was a fun morning filled with trains, conversation, and something new to see around every corner!

PAI participants, staff, families and community members saddled up for Made in the Shade during kickoff celebrations at all four program locations!

Participants decorated bandanas, wore western hats, posed at the photo booth, tested their skills with rope toss games, and enjoyed ice cream treats together.

Our friends from Horse Hugs also visited each location with their mini horses, bunnies, and chickens, giving participants a chance to interact with a few special guests.

Thank you to everyone who joined the fun and helped kick off Made in the Shade!

The 35th Annual Made in the Shade brought participants, families, staff, volunteers, and community members together at Bde Maka Ska for a bright morning of inclusion and connection. The weather held up as everyone walked and rolled around the lake in coral-colored T-shirts!

Throughout the morning, attendees heard from emcee Susan-Elizabeth Littlefield from WCCO and visited with the miniature horses and bunnies from Horse Hugs. PAI also had plenty to celebrate in the art contest: PAI-Commerce earned first place, and PAI-Linden took second!

Together, the PAI community reached the $26,000 fundraising goal! Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, collected pledges, sponsored the event, or shared the campaign. Additional gifts will continue to support meaningful programming for PAI participants throughout the year: https://www.paimn.org/how-to-help/made-in-the-shade-fundraising.html

This week, we’re recognizing the dedicated Direct Support Professionals selected as Oakdale’s 2026 Site Award winners!

Chosen by their coworkers, these awards recognize staff who provide person-centered support, strengthen programming, encourage their teammates, and make a difference at PAI each day. During a catered lunch, staff celebrated the recipients and shared the thoughtful reasons each person was selected.

Program Champion: Isabel
Team Player: Charlique
Rookie of the Year: Dorcas
Person-Centered Advocate: Paris

One award recipient was unable to attend the celebration, so former COO Alicia McCallum stepped in to hold their place in the group photo. Although Paris is not pictured, their recognition and contributions are an important part of this year’s celebration!

Staff from Linden and Oakdale also surprised their Program Director, Kennedy, with a Certificate of Appreciation. The unexpected recognition was a thoughtful way for staff to thank her for her leadership and show how much she is valued by both teams.

Congratulations to Oakdale’s 2026 Site Award winners and to Kennedy on this special recognition!
