💚 Meet the Leadership Behind The Brook Center! 🌿

One of the things we’re most proud of at The Brook Center is the team we’ve built and the people who help make our vision a reality every day!

We wanted to take a moment to introduce the faces behind our clinical leadership team!

🌿 Beanca | Waverly Clinical Director

🌿 Audrey | White Bluff Clinical Director

Alongside our founder, Ashley, these two help lead our clinics, support our staff, and ensure that the children and families we serve continue to receive individualized, compassionate, and high-quality ABA services.

Being a clinical director is so much more than overseeing programs. It’s mentoring staff, collaborating with families, making thoughtful clinical decisions, and creating an environment where both our children and our team can continue to grow.

As The Brook Center has grown, having strong leadership within each of our locations has become such an important part of who we are.

We believe that when our staff feel supported, our families feel supported, too. And that starts with leadership that is present, approachable, and genuinely invested in the people they serve.

We’re incredibly thankful for the heart, dedication, and knowledge these two bring to The Brook Center every single day!

Here’s to continuing to grow together and making a meaningful difference in our communities!

🎃 Parent Tip: Making Halloween Fun for Every Child! 👻

Halloween is full of excitement, but between costumes, unfamiliar faces, changes in routines, and lots of extra sights and sounds, it can also feel a little overwhelming for some children!

Here are a few simple ways to help your child enjoy the festivities:

🍬 Practice ahead of time! Try on costumes, practice saying “trick or treat,” or talk through what Halloween night might look like.

👻 Offer choices! Let your child help choose their costume, activities, or when they might need a break. Giving children choices can make unfamiliar experiences feel more manageable.

🎃 Use first-then statements! Sometimes siblings or other family members want to participate in activities your child may not be as excited about. Using simple first-then language can help make expectations more predictable.

For example: “First, we’ll walk through the pumpkin patch with your brother, then we can go play on the playground!”

Keep activities brief when needed, offer breaks, and remember that it’s okay to adjust the plan if your child is overwhelmed.

🧁 Celebrate the little moments! Success might look like participating in one activity, trying on a costume, or simply enjoying a Halloween cupcake!

💚 Keep expectations flexible! Not every child will want to wear a costume, visit every house, or participate in every activity—and that’s okay!

At The Brook Center, we believe meaningful progress looks different for every child, and holidays are no exception.

The goal isn’t a picture-perfect Halloween. It’s creating memories, building skills, and finding ways for everyone in the family to enjoy the experience together! 💚

Happy Halloween from The Brook Center! 🎃

The people behind the progress. 💚

Behind every milestone celebrated, every new skill learned, and every child who walks through our doors is a team of individuals who genuinely love what they do.

At The Brook Center, one of the things we take the most pride in is our people.

Our BCBAs, BCaBAs, and RBTs bring so much more than their knowledge and experience to work each day. They bring compassion, patience, creativity, and a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.

We believe that providing high-quality ABA starts with building a team that feels supported, valued, and connected. When we invest in our people, we’re also investing in the quality of care our families receive.

Over the past five years, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to build a team that shares our vision of providing individualized, ethical, and compassionate services.

And while we may be a little biased, we truly believe we have some of the best people in the field. 🧡

These are the faces behind The Brook Center, and we couldn’t be prouder of the team we’ve built.

Here’s to continuing to grow, learn, and make a difference together! 🌱

🌱 What Does Discharge Look Like in ABA?

Starting ABA can feel like a journey all on its own.

For many families, there were evaluations, diagnosis appointments, insurance approvals, waitlists, and sometimes even changing providers before their child ever walked through our doors.

So when we start talking about discharge, it can feel incredibly far away.

But here’s something we want every family to know:

Discharge has always been part of the goal. 💚

ABA isn’t intended to be forever.

From the beginning, we work with each family to identify meaningful, individualized goals for their child. And as that child grows, those goals grow and change with them.

Success isn’t going to look the same for every child.

For one child, it may mean being ready to walk into a kindergarten classroom.

For another, it may mean transitioning successfully into their school with fewer supports.

For another, it might mean homeschooling, participating more independently in their community, preparing for employment, or eventually stepping into adulthood with the skills they need for the life they want to live.

There isn’t one finish line.

Discharge happens when a child has made meaningful progress toward their individualized goals and no longer needs the same level of ABA support. Sometimes that means gradually reducing services and supports before services end altogether.

And those are some of the most bittersweet days at The Brook Center.

We have the incredible privilege of meeting children at the beginning of their journey, watching them learn skills that once felt incredibly hard, celebrating hundreds of little victories along the way—and eventually getting to say:

You did it. You’re ready for what’s next. 🎓💚

We’re proud of every child who walks through our doors. But there’s something incredibly special about watching one walk out for the final time, ready for their next chapter.

Because ultimately, our goal isn’t for a child to need us forever.

Our goal is to help them build the skills they need to thrive without us. 🌱

Something exciting is coming to Waverly…

We have a few ABA therapy openings coming soon at our Waverly location! 💚

Our Waverly clinic supports children at different ages and stages through:

🍎 Our Pre-K Readiness Group— up to 5 days a week
Building communication, independence, social, classroom, and school-readiness skills to help prepare children for their next step.

🌱 Early Learner Services
Individualized ABA for our younger kiddos who aren’t quite at the pre-K stage yet, with a focus on early communication, play, learning, and independence.

📚 Individualized Support for School-Age Children
For children attending school who may benefit from additional one-on-one ABA support outside of their regular school day or through scheduled pull-out services during the week.

Every child’s needs are different—which means their services should be, too.

A limited number of spots will be opening soon in Waverly, and we’ll be reaching out to families shortly to begin the intake process. 👀

If you’ve been considering ABA services for your child, now is a great time to reach out and start the conversation.

If you’ve ever wondered what a day at The Brook Center looks like, here’s a little glimpse! 🧡

Every child’s program is individualized, but one thing remains the same: our goal is to make learning meaningful, engaging, and functional.

Throughout the day, our children may participate in:

🌱 One-on-one individualized instruction tailored to their goals

👫 Small group activities to build social, communication, and classroom readiness skills

🎨 Play-based learning that targets communication, problem-solving, and independence

🍎 Snack and meal routines that encourage self-help skills and social interaction

🌳 Outdoor play and movement breaks to support regulation and gross motor development

🏫 Community outings to practice skills in real-world environments

🧩 Natural opportunities to learn through everyday routines—not just at a table

Our mission isn’t simply to help children succeed during therapy.

It’s to help them build the confidence and skills they’ll use at home, at school, and in their communities every single day.

🍎 Parent Tip: Helping Your Child Have a Successful Start to the School Year 🍎

Back-to-school season brings a lot of excitement… but it can also bring new routines, new teachers, new environments, and big emotions.

Whether your child is starting preschool, kindergarten, or returning to school, here are a few simple ways you can help make the transition a little smoother:

✨ Start adjusting routines early. Begin shifting bedtime and morning routines a few days before school starts.

✨ Talk about what to expect. Read books about school, drive by the building, or look at pictures of their classroom if you can.

✨ Practice independence. Encourage your child to carry their backpack, put on their shoes, wash their hands, or open their lunch containers.

✨ Remember that adjustment takes time. It’s completely normal for children to need a few days—or even a few weeks—to settle into a new routine.

Every child adjusts at their own pace, and that’s okay.

At The Brook Center, we know that transitions can be challenging, but they also create incredible opportunities for growth. With patience, consistency, and encouragement, children often surprise us with just how much they’re capable of.

We hope all of our families have a wonderful and successful school year! 🧡📚

What is ABA? As we head back to school and welcome many new families to our page, we thought it would be the perfect time to answer one of the questions we hear most often:

What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)?

At its core, ABA is the science of learning. It’s about understanding how people learn new skills and using evidence-based strategies to help them become more independent and successful in their everyday lives.

While ABA can help decrease behaviors that interfere with learning, that’s only one small piece of what we do.

Every day, we’re helping children build meaningful skills like:
✨ Communication
✨ Social interaction and friendships
✨ Emotional regulation
✨ Play and leisure skills
✨ Daily living skills
✨ Following routines and directions
✨ Problem-solving
✨ Independence

At The Brook Center, we believe ABA should be individualized, compassionate, and centered around each child’s unique strengths and goals.

Whether it’s through one-on-one therapy, group programming, community outings, or our Kindergarten Readiness Program, our goal is always the same: to help children build the skills they need to thrive at home, at school, and in their communities.

Because ABA isn’t about changing who a child is.

It’s about giving them the tools, confidence, and support to reach their fullest potential.

In June, our Brook Center families had the opportunity to participate in a gymnastics class hosted by White Bluff Ballet, and our kiddos had an absolute blast trying something new!

While it looked like fun (and it absolutely was!), these outings are also full of meaningful learning opportunities. Throughout the class, our team supported children as they practiced:
✨ Listening and following group instructions
✨ Waiting their turn
✨ Trying new activities
✨ Building confidence in an unfamiliar environment
✨ Engaging alongside peers

Community outings can sometimes feel overwhelming for children with autism—and for their parents, too. That’s why we love creating opportunities where families don’t have to navigate those experiences alone.

Our BCBAs and RBTs are there to support children as they practice important life skills in real-world settings, while parents have the opportunity to connect with other families who truly understand the journey.

We’re so grateful to whitebluffballet for welcoming our families and helping create such a fun and inclusive experience. We can’t wait for our next adventure! 💚
