"Wait and see" is not a treatment plan. 💡

If your child has been snoring, grinding their teeth, or mouth breathing and you've been told to give it time — it's worth getting a second opinion.

The window for guiding proper facial development is narrow. Every year that passes is a year of habits reinforcing themselves and development moving in the wrong direction.

Myofunctional therapy addresses the root cause — the muscle function and breathing patterns driving these symptoms — before they become permanent.

If your child's dentist has mentioned swollen tonsils or adenoids, it's worth understanding the bigger picture. ✨

Enlarged tonsils and adenoids are often the body's response to chronic mouth breathing and poor airway function — and they can themselves make the airway even more restricted, creating a cycle.

Myofunctional therapy works alongside your child's dental and medical team to address the breathing and muscle function that drives the cycle — so your child gets the most complete care possible.

Save this post if you've been navigating this conversation with your child's provider.

What is a Myobrace and how does it fit into myofunctional therapy? ✨

Myobrace is a series of removable oral appliances worn for 1-2 hours during the day and overnight while sleeping. They work by providing light, consistent forces that guide the jaw to develop to its natural width and train the tongue to rest in the correct position.

Myobrace works with the body's natural growth. Used in combination with myofunctional exercises, it addresses both the structural and the functional sides of the equation.

I was a pioneer in introducing the Myobrace in Wichita and I have over a decade of experience matching the right appliance to each patient's needs.

Save this post if your child has been told they'll need braces or has crowded teeth.

Lip seal, keeping the lips gently closed at rest, is one of the simplest and most powerful habits for better breathing and sleep.

When the lips rest together naturally, the tongue is in the correct position, nasal breathing is supported, and the muscles of the face are doing exactly what they're meant to do.

Most children who mouth breathe have lost this resting lip seal over time. It feels effortful at first, but with myofunctional exercises, it becomes completely automatic. And that one habit supports better breathing, better sleep, and better jaw development all at once.

Next time your child is watching TV, reading, or just resting, take a look at where their lips are. If their mouth is open, it's worth exploring why.
