Sexually transmitted diarrhea is having a moment. 💩😂

Yes, it’s a real thing, and it’s more common than you might think!

Shigella is a highly contagious bacterium that causes diarrhea (sometimes bloody), fever, and abdominal cramps.

According to CDC, Shigella causes approximately 450,000 infections every year in the United States, including an estimated 242,000 infections involving antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

It spreads through contaminated food, water, unwashed hands, and yes, s*xual contact involving f***l exposure.

We don’t know exactly how many infections are s*xually transmitted, but transmission is well documented.

Here’s the concerning part: A CDC report published in April 2026 found that extensively drug-resistant Shigella increased from 0% of tested isolates in 2011 to 8.5% in 2023.

These strains resist FIVE commonly used antibiotics, making some infections much harder to treat.

The good news? Most people recover without antibiotics, usually within 5–7 days.

Prevention includes washing your hands with soap and water, practicing safer s*x, and avoiding s*xual activity during illness and for at least two weeks after diarrhea ends.

So yes, there’s regular diarrhea AND s*xually transmitted diarrhea.

However, trust me, you don’t want either. 😅

The M-Care family is grieving the loss of our matriarch Grandma Dorothy. To know her is to know what living your authentic, no bull crap, fiercely loving, protective self looks like.
