Dolly Parton passed away this week, after a brief battle with cancer. Her husband, Carl Dean, was sick for a long time before he passed away in March 2025, after 58 years of marriage. Dolly was his caregiver through it all, even as her own health began to suffer.

In a video titled "I ain't dead yet!" Dolly admitted the truth: "I didn't take care of myself, so I let a lot of things go."

She's not alone. 63 million Americans are caregivers right now. Jason Resendez, president of the National Alliance for Caregiving, put it plainly: "The data shows this is happening in millions of homes across America."

Nearly a quarter of caregivers struggle to attend to their own health while caring for someone else, according to a National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP report.

Dolly gave everything to the people she loved, including her health. She's not the only one. Millions of caregivers are doing the same thing right now.

We wish we had something for every caregiver reading this. Right now, the most concrete resource we can point to is GUIDE, for dementia and Alzheimer's caregivers on Original Medicare (Parts A & B). If you qualify, it may give you up to $2,600+ a year towards paid help.
