MEET OUR THERAPIST: MELISSA!
Today we’re shining the spotlight on Melissa Daughty, PT, DPT, one of our amazing Pediatric Physical Therapists at Move2Play!
Melissa has been part of the Move2Play family for almost 2 years and has been working as a pediatric PT for 8+ years, supporting children from infancy through their teenage years. She truly can’t imagine doing anything else!
Why Pediatric PT?
Melissa loves that pediatric PT combines movement, development, creativity, problem-solving, and relationships. Her favorite part? Watching a child have that “I DID IT!” moment—and seeing their confidence grow right along with their skills!
Her specialty?
Gross motor development, especially with infants and toddlers! She loves helping little ones build those foundational skills that lead to bigger milestones like standing, walking, playing, exploring, and becoming more independent. She also enjoys working with older kids and the higher-level skills that challenge her clinical thinking.
Favorite therapy tools?
Anything that gets kids moving and having fun! Therapy balls, BOSUs, peanut balls, swings, the vibration board…and of course, BUBBLES!
Something she wants parents to know:
“You know your child better than anyone. Trust your instincts, ask questions, and remember that every child develops at their own pace. Progress doesn’t always look the same for every child—and every accomplishment is worth celebrating!”
Melissa believes pediatric PT is about so much more than exercises. It’s about helping children play, participate, explore their world, keep up with friends, become more independent, and simply be kids.
A few fun facts about Melissa:
Favorite season: Summer
Favorite holiday: Christmas
Go-to drink: Fruity green tea energy teas, hot chocolate, mocha frappes & fruity teas from Shape It Up Nutrition
Favorite thing to do outside of work: Spend time with her family, watch her kids do what they love, and enjoy the everyday moments that become the best memories.
Dream superpower: Pausing time (because who couldn’t use a few extra hours in the day?!)
One word her coworkers would use to describe her: Caring
Melissa says being a mom has also influenced the way she practices pediatric PT, giving her an even deeper appreciation for the hopes, questions, worries, and emotions that come with watching a child grow and develop.
When asked what makes Move2Play special, Melissa said:
“The people. The therapists, the families, and the kids are who make it such a fun, encouraging, and supportive place to grow.”
We are so thankful to have Melissa on our team! Her compassion, creativity, and genuine love for children make such a difference every day.
