When I was a teenager, I had terrible acne. Large inflamed pimples covered my cheeks. My teenage self already believed I was ugly, and having such severe issues lowered my confidence even more.
The thing is, no one helped me figure out the root cause. No one thought or said, 'Goodness, this girl has a terribly inflammed gut', OR 'Her liver is absolutely compromised and the toxins are being pushed out the skin', OR 'Honey, you need to check in with what you are eating'. Nope, no root cause ideology came my way for years and years.
My Mother took me to the dermatologist; he prescribed the oral antibiotic Tetracycline. Now I know that this Pharmaceutical antibiotic was like a bomb going off inside of me.
🔥 My already compromised gut microbiome became even more disturbed, making the acne worse by killing rhe good bacteria that my gut and immune system desperately needed.
🔥 There is a liver and kidney burden with Tetracycline, and unbeknownst to me or my Mother, who was certainly trying to help me, this antibiotic was part of setting up liver issues later in life.
🔥 Nutrient deficiencies were already present since I know today that my genetics include Celiac disease, which lowers nutrient absorbtion. Adding Tetracycline caused even further nutrient absorbtion problems. Tetracycline all by itself can deplete the body of essential nutrients over time, including B vitamins (which gut bacteria help synthesize), vitamin K, and minerals like calcium, magnesium, and iron, which bind to the drug and reduce absorption,
My skin had even less of a fighting chance after being bombarded by Tetracycline.
It took a few months, but between a majorly clueless me that still figured out that my stomach hurt when I took the pills, and my Mother being somewhat aware that a medicine was not natural, we realized the Tetracycline was not helping and my skin was becoming even more inflamed. Somehow we stopped this med, thank God.
Eventually I began to clean up my diet. I was baking all kinds of breads, cookies, cakes, and other homemade treats, and was my own biggest Consumer of what I baked. I had a huge appetite, eating way too much food for my little tummy, which would just ACHE.
Somewhere in there I stopped bakjng so many treats. Then I stopped eating sugar altogether, mostly to help lose weight. My skin improved. I tried all kinds of holistic food from the Seventh Day Adventist cookbooks and my skin improved again. Believe it or not, I still did not put it all together as to what was causing the improvement. Eventually, I realized that I broke out every time I ate deep fried food, so I stopped eating chips, fries, onion rings, etc. This made a huge difference. But still I did not understand WHY. Today I do know why -- my liver never could tolerate a very high level of toxic fats and seed oils running through it.
Then came the nutrition classes and Biochemical Applied Kinesiology with it's connection to Traditional Chinese Medicine. I found out the skin is 100% tied to the health of the liver and that this entire time, liver compromise was driving my skin issues. Again, I thank the Lord that this was shown to me.
Over time, I have figured out how to know what is causing any skin disruptions; how to consistently detox my liver; how to say NO to any inclination to eat toxic deep fried fats, even 'organic' chips and crackers full of seed oils; and how to eat nutritionally so my liver is more supported, which causes my skin to be more clear.
If you would like to experience clearer skin from a holistic perspective, give me a call and we will work together to figure it out for you.
