This 💜

I have an unpopular opinion:

The authentic version of you is probably a lot less nice than you are right now.

Not less kind.
Not less compassionate.
Not less loving.

Less willing to betray yourself just to keep everyone else comfortable.

People-pleasing isn’t kindness.

It’s often a survival strategy.

It’s saying yes when you mean no.
Smiling when you’re hurt.
Apologizing for taking up space.
Keeping the peace because your nervous system learned that conflict wasn’t safe.

That’s not authenticity.

That’s fear wearing a smile.

Healing isn’t becoming colder.

It’s becoming honest.

And the women who love you for who you really are won’t need the version of you that’s constantly performing, shrinking, fixing, rescuing, or making everyone else comfortable at your own expense.

I want to tell you something I couldn’t have said a few years ago. 🖤

The universe was always ready to give me everything.

I just had to become someone safe enough to receive it.

I was doing everything right on the outside. Working hard. Setting intentions. Saying yes. And there was always a ceiling. Always a moment where something good would start to happen and something inside me would quietly find a way to bring it back down.

That’s not a mindset problem.

That’s a nervous system problem.

When your body has been running on survival — when good things always came with a cost — your nervous system doesn’t know how to hold abundance. It only knows how to return to familiar.

And familiar wasn’t abundance. Familiar was survival.

So I did the work. Not the pretty kind. The real kind. The grief and the rage and the slow unglamorous work of teaching my body it was safe to receive.

And then something shifted. And then something else shifted.

And I looked up one day standing in the middle of a life I genuinely could not have imagined for myself.

Opportunities found me. Doors I never knew existed opened. And the most surprising part?

I let them.

That’s what healing does. It doesn’t just fix you.

It unlocks you. 🖤
Save this for when you need a reminder that your path has a purpose and follow for more. 🙏

I know this might ruffle some feathers. But I need to say it anyway. 🖤

Positive thinking has its place. Mindset work has its place.
But neither of them has ever healed trauma.

And I watch so many incredible people pour years into thinking their way to wholeness — and then quietly blame themselves when it doesn’t work. When the anxiety comes back. When the patterns repeat. When the affirmations feel hollow and somehow never translate into actually feeling different.

That’s not a you problem. That’s a biology problem.

Here’s what positive thinking cannot do:

It cannot regulate a nervous system stuck in survival mode. It cannot release stored stress energy living in your body. It cannot complete stress cycles your body started years ago and never got to finish. It cannot tell your brain the danger is over.

Only your body can do that.

So here’s what to do instead:

01. Regulate before you reframe — body first. Always.

02. Feel it to heal it — emotions need to move through your body not your mind.

03. Stop overriding biology with willpower — trauma responses need safety not positive thinking.

04. Work with your nervous system — learn your triggers, build a regulation practice, meet your body where it is.

05. Get support that goes beneath the surface — somatic work and trauma informed coaching over mindset work alone.
You’re not broken because positive thinking didn’t fix you.
You were just given the wrong tool for the job. 🖤

You’ve been resting. You’re still exhausted. This is why.

Real recovery isn’t about doing nothing.
It’s about your nervous system finally feeling safe enough to come down.

If you’ve never experienced that — that’s where we start.

Save this. Share it with someone who can’t figure out why rest isn’t working. 🤍

Yes, this is me. Doing the thing. 😅🖤

No filter. No pretending I have it all together. Just me — shaking, breathing, tapping, humming, or whatever my body needed in that moment — because regulated Joelle shows up completely differently than dysregulated Joelle. And the people I serve deserve the regulated version.

Here’s what I want to talk about though.
That little voice.
You know the one. The one that shows up the second you start to do the work and says — this is weird. You look ridiculous. This isn’t going to work. What are you even doing.
That voice has kept more people stuck than almost anything else I know.

Because here’s the truth — somatic regulation is not glamorous. Tapping on your face is not glamorous. Shaking your body intentionally is not glamorous. Making sounds and breathing loudly and doing the thing your nervous system actually needs is not going to make you feel cool while you’re doing it.

But it works.

And the moment you let “I look silly” become the reason you don’t regulate — you have chosen your image over your healing. You have let pride run the show instead of letting your body finally get what it needs.

I do this because I refuse to ask my community to do something I won’t do myself. Not because I look good doing it. Not because it feels natural yet. But because my healing — and yours — is worth looking a little ridiculous for.

Do it in private. Do it in public. Do it wherever you feel safe enough to actually do it.

Just don’t let the voice that says you look silly be the reason you don’t. 🖤

Save this as your permission slip to do the thing — even when it feels weird.

The rage. The grief. The part of you that’s exhausted from holding it all together. The voice that’s been screaming underneath the surface while you smile, perform, and keep going.

Most women don’t ignore their emotions because they’re weak. They ignore them because at some point, feeling was dangerous. So they learned to push it down, rise above it, stay composed — and call it strength.

But here’s what your nervous system knows that your mind doesn’t want to accept:
She’s not trying to destroy you. She’s trying to reach you.
The emotions you’ve been white-knuckling through, numbing out from, or running away from? They’re not evidence that something is wrong with you. They’re the parts of you that never got to be held. Never got to be heard. Never got to feel safe enough to fall apart.

Freedom doesn’t come from silencing her.
It comes from turning toward her — with safety, with compassion, with the kind of love she never got the first time.
That’s not weakness. That’s the bravest thing you’ll ever do.
You’re not too much. You’re not broken. You’re human — and you deserve to heal all the way through. 🖤
