Jessie may need y’all’s help deciding today. Those of you who have come to Keli for tattoos know that she likes to give options. She says “Even with an in-person consultation art is subjective and it can get a little lost in translation, so if able, I like drawing up more than 1 option for my clients to choose from.” Today, the assignment was: “Classic comic Garfield with Odie and Pookie bear.” Jessie doesn’t know she has 4 options yet, so when she has a hard time picking, maybe y’all can help!

🚨 PSA ABOUT TATTOOS & MINORS 🚨

We’ve been getting a lot questions lately about tattooing clients under the age of 18, so we wanted to clear up a common misconception:

In the State of Texas, we CANNOT tattoo anyone under 18 just because a parent gives permission.

Not at 17.
Not if your 18th birthday is tomorrow.
Not if Mom is standing right beside you saying it’s okay.
Not even if Mom signs something.

This isn’t an Ink Insurgency policy — it’s Texas law.

Texas Health & Safety Code §146.012 prohibits a tattoo artist from tattooing anyone under the age of 18.

And unfortunately, “but my mom said I could” isn’t an exception.😬

For us, ignoring that law could mean much more than getting yelled at. Violations of Chapter 146 can carry criminal penalties, as well as administrative penalties that can reach $5,000 per violation. Violations can also put a studio’s license at risk.

So when one of our artists tells you that we have to wait until you’re 18, we promise we aren’t trying to ruin anybody’s fun. 😂 We’re protecting our artists, our licenses, and the shop we’ve worked very hard to build.

✨ PIERCINGS ARE DIFFERENT! ✨

Texas law DOES allow us to pierce minors with the proper consent and documentation from a parent, managing conservator, or legal guardian.

There are specific identification, consent, and proof-of-relationship requirements that have to be met, so please message us before bringing in a minor and we’ll let you know exactly what documentation you’ll need.

We absolutely LOVE that parents trust us enough to bring their teenagers to us. ❤️ We just have to follow the laws Texas and the Health Department put in place.
