BELT MOBILIZATIONS

What might look and feel surprisingly subtle is a useful tool in our Refuge toolbox.

We call this technique “belt mobilization.” We use the belt to help guide and improve movement at a stiff joint which is common in:

💥 Arthritic joints
💥 Surgical / Post op joints
💥 Recently or previously immobilized joints (ie. casts, braces, ankle/foot boot)
💥 Frozen shoulder

Stiffness can also develop in joints when they have tight muscles around them, constricting their ability to move into their full range.

Stretching at home can help improve your range of motion, especially when tight muscles are part of the picture. But sometimes the joint itself isn’t moving as freely as it could. That’s where belt mobilizations come into play: they let us work on the joint’s mobility in a targeted way that’s hard to recreate with a typical stretch.
