One of my poetry loving patients recited this to me from memory today. 🍁🍂

When You Are Old
By William Butler Yeats

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

Patient reports:
"Stepped on something by the trash can yesterday.
Hurt walking barefoot.
Ok to walk with shoes on.
This morning, it felt worse."
No known recent broken glass.
No history of neuropathy.

Found:
Small area of broken skin.
No signs of infection.
No obvious foreign body.
Sensation intact.

Pared the callus shallowly and *scrape*
A metal scalpel helps to find glass- the texture is unmistakable.

Emma joined me to wrangle some administrative work for our monthly clinic at Islebrook today.

Our day was spent hearing patient's stories and memories while listening to the 50's station and making some toenails "quit fighting" as someone said. 🤣

I couldn't be more proud to share the craft of nursing with this kiddo!
