So many of my new clients and just people in general are completely overwhelmed trying to figure out what is best for their health and wellness.
Everyone and their sister is an internet expert on social media. And they all tell you something different. And because of how social media works, especially for those who monetize their pages, (I do not) the more outlandish, confusing, or controversial the post, the more $ they make. So it pays for them to overwhelm you.
So here are some basic tips and information to get you pointed in the right direction.
1. I always think about Gods plan when deciding if something makes sense or not. I doubt He planned for us to be hunting and gathering in the woods with a giant Yeti water bottle in our hands making sure we pushed an obscene amount of water through our bodies. I doubt He wanted us to avoid eating this berry to close to this nut because our bodies can’t absorb this nutrient and that one at the same time. Your body is smart and wonderfully made. If you are giving it adequate CLEAN water and whole food nutrients, it will figure it out for you.
2. There is no magic diet or macro count that works for everyone. Someone who eats carnivore will tell you it was life changing and everyone should do it. Someone who gave up dairy will tell you milk is for baby cows and you are wrong to consume it, someone who focuses on high vegetable intake will swear it’s the answer. The truth is your body was designed to operate on whole food. Not things from a box or package, not things from a drive though window, and not things at 99.9% of restaurants. Start there. Eat actual food. Then listen to your body. Do you feel better when you increase protein? Do you feel better when you avoid grains? Do you feel better without dairy? Your body was beautifully and individually made, and the exact right amount of different FOODS (not all the chemicals the food industry calls food) might vary from person to person.
3. You have to move your body. You have to strength train. You need to stress the bones and muscle to build and strengthen bones and muscle. A causal stroll around the block doesn’t count. You don’t have to go to a gym, you don’t have to do an hour long exercise video, I do not suggest slogging away on a treadmill for miles and miles. But you need to get your heart rate up. You need to do resistance training. If you don’t use it, you lose it. And you need a strong body to be healthy into your later years, not to mention for your blood sugar and hormones to be happy now.
4. Do not take health advice from unhealthy people. This seems so simple, but so many people I see calling themselves wellness practitioners and so many people who work in healthcare are unhealthy. They are overweight, stressed out, and many aren’t emotionally or mentally regulated. Why would you pay them money to give you advice? If they don’t even know how to help themselves, they aren’t going to be able to help you. If your provider is eating junk, drinking pop, and selling you things to be “healthy” ..run!
5. There are some blessings and lifesaving breakthroughs that have come from the pharmaceutical industry. There is a time and a place when that might be medically necessary. But you will not find health in a prescription bottle. You will not find health by injecting yourself with the newest peptides or weight loss drugs, you cannot eat a crappy diet and fix if with an IV treatment. Start spending your time and money on truly healing and caring for the body God gave you. There is no easy button.
These are starting points. These are things that are foundational to being strong and healthy. If you need help beyond this, work with someone who is educated, qualified, and following the foundational things too.
