The idea behind a lot of massage or “myofascial relase” is to create separation and hydration in sticky dehydrated tissue.
This fascial tissue encapsulates all of your muscles and vital organs and at time with trauma, lack of nutrition and hydration, and stress, the tissues can become brittle and sticky, causing restrictions in movement, pain, and further structural damage left untreated.
Different forms of massage/self-massage, trigger point therapy, cupping, scraping, and other modalities may help to bring hydration and nutrition to damaged tissue, but if our blood is not carrying the protein and nutrients it needs to create growth, we can create more harm than help! Similarly, if we do not train the joint/body how to move with correct tension after the massage, we can create different imbalances.
It is important to stay well balanced in mobility and strengthening, nutrition and supplementation, and hydration to electrolytes to create a successful environment for change in the body.
Supplements such as type 2 collagen, protein, hyaluronic acid, glucosamine chondroitin, and MSM may help in rebuilding and rehydrating damaged fascia. Turmeric, C*D, and fishoil may help with pain and inflammation.
