Every symptom on your list has a root cause. Most of them have never been investigated 👇

The 3am wake up is cortisol rising too early — not insomnia.

The anxiety that appeared from nowhere is progesterone declining — not a mental health condition.

The bloating is estrobolome disruption — oestrogen recirculating rather than clearing — not the food you ate.

The weight gain that does not respond to diet is insulin resistance, oestrogen-driven fat redistribution, and a thyroid working harder than it should — not a lack of willpower.

The brain fog is oestrogen and dopamine fluctuation — not stress.

The rage is your nervous system running without its progesterone-driven shock absorbers — not who you are.

None of this is random. None of it is inevitable. And all of it can be mapped to its specific root cause.

Building your personal root cause map is the centrepiece of Week 4 of my course You Are Not Imagining It — where every symptom gets connected to its most likely driver so you know exactly what you are dealing with and exactly what to do about it.

Your gut microbiome is actively changing in perimenopause. And it is making every symptom you already have significantly worse 👇

Oestrogen actively supports the health and diversity of your gut microbiome — particularly Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium — your most beneficial bacterial species.

When oestrogen fluctuates and declines in perimenopause — beneficial bacteria decline with it. Harmful species increase. The gut lining becomes more permeable. Systemic inflammation rises.

And that inflammation surfaces as symptoms that look completely unrelated to your gut.

Worsening hot flushes — because estrobolome disruption is driving oestrogen recirculation.

New food reactions — because a permeable gut lining is triggering immune responses to foods you have eaten for years.

Mood drops and worsening anxiety — because 90% of your serotonin is produced in your gut and a disrupted microbiome produces less of it.

Weight gain that does not respond to diet — because gut dysbiosis drives metabolic dysfunction independently of what you eat.

These are not separate problems. They are the same microbiome disruption viewed from different angles.

Supporting your microbiome in perimenopause is not the same as taking a standard probiotic. It requires strain specific bacteria, diverse plant fibre, fermented foods introduced slowly, and addressing the disruptors that are killing your beneficial bacteria in the first place.

I used to be fun.

Genuinely. I was the one who suggested the second bottle. The one who closed down the restaurant and then suggested we find somewhere else to go. The one who woke up the next morning absolutely fine and went for a run.

And then my 40s arrived.

Now I have one glass of w**e with dinner like a reasonable adult and wake up the next day feeling like I made several terrible decisions. I need water. I need electrolytes. I need everyone to please lower their voices. I need a nap and it is 10am.

Nobody warned me perimenopause would change my relationship with Sauvignon Blanc. That felt like important information I should have had sooner.

The good news is you are not imagining it and you are not alone. Perimenopause changes how your body processes everything — including alcohol. Less muscle mass, more fat tissue, less water in your cells. It all means alcohol hits harder and stays longer than it used to.

So if you are currently nursing a sparkling water at dinner and quietly grieving your former self — hi. Welcome. Pull up a chair. We are all here together.

Comment TOOLKIT below and I will send you the free perimenopause guide so you can understand everything else that is changing in your body right now. 💕

I gained 20 pounds while using half a starting dose of an oestrogen patch. And I was told it wasn’t possible 👇

My DUTCH test showed normal oestrogen clearance, suggesting that the gut-related explanation might not fully explain my experience.

So, what else could have been happening?

There are several possible mechanisms worth exploring with a qualified healthcare professional.

**1. Oestrogen sensitivity**

People can respond differently to the same hormone dose. Individual sensitivity and changes in fluid balance may contribute to unexpected symptoms, including rapid weight fluctuations.

**2. Thyroid hormone changes**

Oestrogen can increase thyroid-binding globulin, a protein that binds thyroid hormones in the bloodstream. In some circumstances, this can affect thyroid hormone levels and may be relevant when investigating symptoms such as fatigue or unexplained weight changes.

**3. Changes in SHBG**

Oestrogen can also influence s*x hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), a protein that binds s*x hormones. Changes in hormone availability may affect some aspects of metabolic and reproductive health, although the relationship with weight gain is complex.

If you experienced significant weight gain while using BHRT and felt your concerns were dismissed, you deserve to be heard. Your symptoms are real, and the possible causes deserve careful investigation.

Don't assume there's only one explanation. Speak with your healthcare professional about your symptoms, treatment, and whether your hormone levels, thyroid function, fluid retention, or other factors need assessment.

The honest BHRT versus HRT conversation — including what to consider if you experience unexpected side effects — is covered in Week 6 of my course, *You Are Not Imagining It* Your Perimenopause Guide.

Nobody told me my gut was running my hormones. And that one piece of information changed everything 👇

Inside your gut microbiome lives a collection of bacteria called the estrobolome. Their entire job is to metabolize and clear oestrogen from your body after the liver has processed it.

When your gut is disrupted — through stress, antibiotics, poor diet, or the hormonal changes of perimenopause itself — the estrobolome is disrupted too. An enzyme called beta-glucuronidase unpackages the oestrogen that was ready to be excreted and sends it back into circulation.

Recirculating oestrogen drives heavy periods, bloating, weight gain, breast tenderness, mood swings, and anxiety. Even when your oestrogen is technically declining.

This is why treating your hormones without addressing your gut — or your gut without addressing your hormones — almost never produces lasting results. They are not two separate problems. They are one.

If you are lying awake at 3am staring at the ceiling wondering what is wrong with you — nothing is wrong with you.

Your hormones are giving you very specific information and once you understand what they are saying everything starts to make sense.

The 3am wake-up is one of the most common things perimenopausal women tell me about. It is not random. It is cortisol. It is progesterone. It is blood sugar. It is your oestrogen fluctuating and triggering your hypothalamus. Every single one of these has a root cause and every single one can be addressed.

You do not have to white-knuckle your way through the second half of your life running on four hours of broken sleep.

Comment TOOLKIT below and I will send you the free perimenopause guide with the full sleep protocol. 💕

The evening drink that finally changed my perimenopause sleep. 👇

I tried everything. Melatonin. Sleep hygiene. No screens before bed. Lavender everything.
Nothing touched it.

Then I started combining three specific compounds that work together through completely different mechanisms to do what my perimenopausal nervous system could no longer do on its own — calm down and restore overnight.

Magnesium bisglycinate activates GABA and blocks excitatory brain signals — and regulates melatonin production so your sleep-wake cycle can function properly.

Glycine lowers core body temperature — which is the primary physiological trigger for sleep onset. This is why it works when everything else has not.

Taurine activates GABA receptors and calms nervous system hyperreactivity — and supports overnight liver detoxification and oestrogen clearance while you sleep.

Three ingredients. Three completely different mechanisms. All working together every single night.

I have made this drink almost every single evening for months. And my sleep has genuinely changed.

The blood test result that changed everything for me 👇

For years I had fatigue that sleep did not fix. Hair that was thinning. Brain fog that came from nowhere. Heart palpitations that scared me. And every time I had blood tests I was told everything was normal.

Until someone finally tested my ferritin specifically.

It was 14. The laboratory flagged it as normal. The research consistently shows that ferritin below 70 causes fatigue, hair loss, brain fog, and heart palpitations.

I had been living with critically low stored iron for years. Being told I was fine. While my body was struggling.

This is why knowing which tests to ask for — and what optimal looks like versus what normal looks like — changes everything.

If you have been told your blood work is normal while feeling anything but — your answers may be in the gap between normal and optimal.

Comment TOOLKIT below and I will send you my free Perimenopause Toolkit — including the complete blood test guide and the exact words to use at your next appointment. 💕

I want you to do something this week. 👇

Call your girlfriends. The ones in their late 30s and 40s. And ask them how they are really feeling.
Not how are you — fine thanks. Really ask.

Because I guarantee you — at least one of them is waking up at 3am and does not know why. At least one of them has anxiety that appeared from nowhere. At least one of them has gained weight despite doing everything right. At least one of them has rage that frightens her. At least one of them is quietly wondering if she is losing her mind.

And not one of them is talking about it out loud.

Because we were never taught to connect these things to our hormones.

We talked about periods when we were teenagers. We talked about pregnancy and postpartum. But the transition that affects every single woman who lives long enough — perimenopause — got left out of the conversation entirely.

42% of women in their early 40s do not know if they are in perimenopause. Not because the symptoms are not there.

Because nobody told them what to look for.

The most powerful thing you can do right now is find your people. Because when one woman understands what is happening in her body — she tells another. And then another.

Share this with a girlfriend who needs to hear it today. And comment TOOLKIT below — I will send you my free Perimenopause Toolkit so you have something real to share with her. 💕

Some days I wake up and I am an absolute delight.

Warm. Patient. Full of love. Would help a stranger move a couch. Would let someone merge in traffic without even sighing. Just a genuinely lovely human being.

And then other days I wake up and someone breathes near me and I need them to stop.

There is no pattern. There is no warning system. No little light that flashes to let the people around you know which version is showing up today. You just find out when you find out.

My husband has started reading the room before he speaks. Smart man.

Perimenopause did not make me a bad person. It just gave me a much shorter runway and zero tolerance for nonsense I was already tired of tolerating. Turns out I had opinions this whole time. My progesterone was just keeping them in check.

She has now left the building.

If your family is currently walking on eggshells and you are not entirely sure why — hi, welcome, you are in the right place. Comment TOOLKIT below and I will send you the free guide. Not because it will fix your mood. But at least you will know whose fault it actually is.

Spoiler: it is your hormones. 💕
