This needs to be said. Please really read it.
Depression and Anxiety are not just words. They are a serious responsibility we all share.
Yes, it hits our 14-17 year olds so hard. They are in the middle of becoming who they are, and the weight can feel unbearable.
But we often forget that it doesn't stop there.
It affects us in our 20s when we feel lost.
In our 30s when we feel overwhelmed.
In our 40s when we feel like we have to hold everything together and we are quietly falling apart.
When it's our children, it is OUR responsibility as parents to see it, to listen, and to take it seriously. Not as a phase. Not as drama.
When we are adults, we need to remember this: It is NOT a shame to talk about it. Strength is not suffering in silence. Strength is saying "I'm not okay."
And now that summer is over, the days are getting shorter, darker and rainier. For so many people, that heaviness gets even heavier.
So please, take it seriously. Take yourself seriously. Take the people around you seriously.
If you are reading this and you are struggling, my inbox is always open. No judgement, no advice unless you want it, just someone who will listen. You don't have to find the perfect words. Just say you're not okay.
You are not alone. Not ever.
