For those of you who don't know me, my name is Sara, I'm married to Adam, and we live in Omaha, NE with our 2 daughters, Monica and Tatum. We live in my childhood neighborhood and Monica is in grade school at the same school I went to. I received my undergraduate education at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. I have a dual Master of Social Work and Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Post college and grad school, I worked as a discharge planner for CHI Health for 3 years, in both PRN and full-time positions. During these 3 years, I happened upon an online health coaching course through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and convinced Adam to let me do it because it sounded like something I would really enjoy. I completed this certification in 2015. A health coach is a mentor who empowers clients to take responsibility for their health. Health coaches are complimentary to other health care professionals. We fill in the gaps. We are getting sicker as a country and obesity is on the rise, which can cause so many other health problems. A lot of external factors contribute to a person's poor state of health. but our healthcare system focuses on treating the immediate illness and not necessarily the factors that caused it. My role as a Health Coach is to address concerns that doctors may not have the time to address~ non-medical issues that are contributing to our medical issues. Our American diets, our finances, our families, our jobs, technology, stress, busy lives, and mental health issues such as anxiety and depression that are prevalent. Health coaches provide a bridge between food and lifestyle~ primary food (physical activity, career, relationships, and spirituality) and secondary food (actual food). The idea is that most of what we 'feed on' in life does not come on a plate. Health coaches help people to achieve balance in their lives through simple, sustainable lifestyle changes. My program specifically helps clients develop new lifestyle habits to support their doctor's health recommendations. I do a complimentary Health History to learn more about YOU and your biggest health concerns. If you are interested, you can sign up for my 6 month program., which involved 2 sessions a month, PLUS email and phone support in between sessions. The program is 6 months because studies show this is the amount of time needed to make long-term habits sustainable. Supporting clients for 6 months, and making better food, exercise and lifestyle choices increases the probability that they will continue these activities after completing the program. It's all about taking responsibility for your life and your health. People likely already know what they should be doing (eating more fruits and veggies, drinking more water, eating less junk food, watching our sugar intake), they just need the support to do it! Health coaching is, for me, the marrying of all my education and doing it in a way I enjoy. My education from IIN was eye-opening and I want to share it with all of you!
