I’m a podiatrist, and these are the foot confessions I hear in my office every week.

1. “I let them use a razor on my calluses.” One slip means an open cut and a risk of infection. Use a pumice stone instead.
2. “These shoes are 2-3 years old.” The cushioning wears out long before the shoes look worn.
3. “All my heels are 4 inches or higher.” That puts heavy pressure on the ball of your foot and can make bunions worse.
4. “I’ve been walking on this injury for weeks.” That’s how a small injury becomes a stress fracture.
5. “I assumed the pain would just go away.” If foot pain lasts more than two weeks, get it checked.
6. “I never went to PT.” PT is what helps your soft tissue and joints get back to normal after an injury.
7. “I shower barefoot at the gym.” That’s how people pick up athlete’s foot, toenail fungus and warts.
8. “My orthotics are 10 years old.” Your feet have changed since then, and those orthotics have worn down.
9. “I’ve been using Vicks on my toenails.” Stubborn toenail fungus usually needs real treatment.
10. “My ingrown has looked like that for 6 months.” It won’t fix itself, and it’s a quick fix in the office.
11. “I borrowed my friend’s shoes.” Those shoes are molded to her feet, and they can spread fungus.

Drop your confession in the comments. No judgment here ❤️. Follow me Dr. Saylee Tulpule for more foot health tips!

(Permission given to post) “My toes feel so tight, like they’re stuck all day and I can’t make them relax.” I hear this from patients all the time, and a hammertoe crest pad is one of the easiest ways to get relief.

It sits under your toes and gently lifts them, so they stop curling under and gripping with every step.

Why I like it:

1. Takes pressure off the tips of your toes
2. Reduces rubbing on the top of the knuckles where corns form
3. Helps ease the clenching that leads to toe cramps

Slip it on, then wear it in shoes with enough toe room so it isn’t squeezed.

If your toes are rigid, painful, or you have diabetes or poor circulation, see a podiatrist before trying pads on your own.

You can purchase these crest pads at your local drug store or online!

I’m a podiatrist, and I refuse to let bunions ruin your boot game. Here are 3 things I check before I say yes to a pair.

1. Round toe box. Pointed toes push your big toe inward and press right on the bunion.
2. Soft leathers and no seam over the bunion area.
3. Low, stable heel. Two inches or less keeps your toes from jamming forward.

3 brands I like for bunion-friendly boots:
Vionic
Naot
Clarks

All three offer wide widths in select styles.

Save this for your next boot shopping trip and share it with a friend who has bunions.

I’m a podiatrist, and this is the On shoe rotation I’d build for a runner with plantar fasciitis.

Rotating shoes spreads the load on your plantar fascia instead of stressing it the same way every run. Max cushion for long and recovery days, stability for daily miles, and save the faster shoes for short, speed-focused sessions.

Which shoe in this rotation are you running in? Tell me in the comments, and follow for more podiatrist-approved running shoe picks.

Heel pain? Don’t buy another sneaker until you see my Top 5 (Part 2). Be sure to catch Part 1!

If your heel hurts with your first steps in the morning or after a long day on your feet, your shoes may be adding strain to your plantar fascia.

What my Top 5 share: cushion, support, and a sole that doesn’t fold in half.

But the right shoe still depends on your foot.

When is your heel pain worst: first thing in the morning, after standing all day, or after a workout?

I’m a podiatrist, and here’s what I tell my patients with a heel spur: it’s a small, bony growth on the bottom of your heel bone that forms over time from repeated strain where your plantar fascia attaches. But the spur usually isn’t what’s causing your heel pain. The real culprit is often plantar fasciitis.

If your first steps in the morning hurt, try this:

• Wear supportive shoes with good arch support
• Skip going barefoot on hard floors
• Stretch your calves daily
• Roll your arch on a frozen water bottle

Pain lasting more than a few weeks? See a podiatrist.

Comment “HEEL” and I’ll send you my free plantar fascia guide.

Here’s the caption with that call to action:

I’m a podiatrist, and if you have plantar fasciitis or heel pain, your shoes could be making it worse.

Your plantar fascia supports your arch with every step. Flat, thin, or worn-out shoes let your arch collapse and send more impact into your heel, which adds strain right where the pain starts.

Look for: a firm heel counter, arch support, a cushioned heel, and a sole that bends at the toes, not the middle.

Which shoe has made your heel pain flare up? Tell me in the comments.

I’m a podiatrist, and if you have curled toes or hammertoes, toe separators are the tool I recommend most.

Crowded toes from narrow shoes or bunions can start to curl over time. Toe separators gently create space, ease pressure, and help keep flexible toes better aligned. Start with 15 to 30 minutes a day and pair them with wide toe box shoes.

If your toe is stiff or painful, see a podiatrist.

Have you tried toe separators? Tell me in the comments.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts’ calf blood clot turned into a DVT and pulmonary embolism, and he’s expected to miss the season. As a board-certified podiatrist, I want you to know calf pain isn’t always a pulled muscle.

If one calf is swollen, warm, red, or tender, get it checked. Chest pain or shortness of breath means go to the ER.

Flying soon? Wear compression socks to keep blood from pooling in your legs, stay hydrated, and walk every hour or two.
