When someone you love is facing breast cancer, it can be hard to know what to say or do.

Often, the most helpful support is practical. Offer a lift to an appointment, cook a meal, help with the school run, collect their medication, or simply sit and listen. Being specific helps too: 'I'm bringing supper on Thursday' is so much easier to accept than 'Let me know if you need anything'.

And if you are the one going through treatment, please remember that it's okay to say yes when help is offered.

Many people feel perfectly healthy and have no idea that their blood pressure is too high. That's why it's so important to know your numbers. The only way to find out is to have your blood pressure measured โ€“ and it only takes a few minutes.

How much do you really know about breast cancer? ๐Ÿค”๐ŸŽ—๏ธ Between the family WhatsApp group and 'something I read somewhere', there are plenty of myths doing the rounds, and some of them stop people from getting checked when they should.

Quick question: when last did you do a breast self-check? ๐Ÿค” (No judgement โ€“ we know how long the to-do list is.) It takes about five minutes, once a month, and it's one of the simplest ways to get to know your body.

Swipe through for the three steps: look in the mirror for any changes in shape, size or skin, feel the whole breast using the flat pads of your fingers, and remember to check your armpits and up to your collarbone too. Choose a regular time each month โ€“ a few days after your period ends is ideal, or the same date every month if you no longer have periods โ€“ so that you can learn what's normal for you. ๐Ÿซถ

๐Ÿ‘‰ Remember, a self-check doesn't replace a clinical breast exam or a mammogram. If you notice anything new or unusual, speak to your doctor or clinic sister. Save this post so you have it handy next month!
