“WHY DO YOU STILL TALK ABOUT YOUR ABUSE? JUST GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON.”
Because I was silent for years.
It took me years just to begin understanding what had happened to me. Years of confusion, brain fog, and trying to make sense of a reality I could barely comprehend. And then came the long, painful journey of healing, rebuilding myself, and finding the woman I had lost along the way.
Healing took time. Finding my voice took courage. And choosing to use that voice became my purpose.
So, no, I will not simply “get over it” and stay quiet to make other people comfortable.
I speak because I know what it feels like to lose yourself in abuse. I speak for the woman who is still confused, still afraid, still blaming herself, and still wondering whether anyone will believe her. I speak because someone else's story might help her recognise the truth before she loses years of her life trying to survive it.
My voice is no longer buried beneath someone else's control. My silence no longer protects the truth.
I did not survive what I survived just to become silent again.
You may be tired of hearing about abuse. But imagine how exhausting it was to live through it.
If my story opens even one woman's eyes, gives one survivor the courage to speak, or helps one person escape the cycle of abuse, then I will continue to speak.
I am not living in the past. I am using what happened to me to make a difference in the present.
My healing is my journey. My voice is my right. My testimony is my choice. And my advocacy is my purpose.
To every woman who has been told to stay quiet, to stop talking, to protect the family's reputation, or to move on before she is ready: Your voice matters. Your truth matters. And you do not owe anyone your silence.
BREAK THE SILENCE. BREAK THE CYCLE.
I will not be silenced. Not now. Not ever.
