5 Things I Wish More People Knew Before Choosing Supplements
Walk into almost any pharmacy or health store and you'll find shelves filled with products promising more energy, better immunity, healthier skin, balanced hormones, improved digestion, and much more.
Supplements can play an important role in supporting health, but they're rarely a substitute for the foundations that help keep our bodies functioning well.
Before purchasing another supplement, it's worth considering these five evidence-informed principles:
❤️ More isn't necessarily better. Supplements should be chosen because they're appropriate for your individual needs, not because more is always better.
❤️ Price doesn't always reflect effectiveness. A more expensive supplement isn't automatically a better supplement.
❤️ Supporting symptoms isn't always the same as addressing the underlying cause. While some supplements may help support symptom management, it's equally important to understand what may be contributing to those symptoms.
❤️ Healthy lifestyle habits provide an important foundation for overall health. Sleep, balanced nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and other healthy habits provide the foundation that supplements can build upon.
❤️ There isn't one "best" supplement for everyone. The right choice depends on factors such as your age, diet, medical history, medications, health goals, and individual circumstances.
Supplements are just one tool in the toolbox. When they're used appropriately, and alongside healthy lifestyle habits they can be a valuable part of supporting overall health.
✨ Which of these five points resonated with you the most? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
