Your Friend in Need Health information sharing - Are all supplements equal?

Based on information gathered from several reliable sources, the answer seems to be a resounding NO.

Are you aware that a large % of supplements available online and in stores are synthetic?

You might also be eating food and drinking water that is fortified, which means that synthetic forms of vitamins and minerals were added to it. Examples of such food are maize meal, rice, cooking oils, milk and salt.

So why does this matter?

It matters in the same way as when you eat highly processed food or synthetic food filled with preservatives, pesticides, colorants, fillers, artificial sweeteners, MSG, etc. instead of eating nutritious organic wholefoods.

It is important for us to start making a habit of checking the ingredients of whatever we consume through our mouths and put on our skins. This should also include checking of the inserts of medicines prescribed to you.

What exactly are synthetic supplements?

Synthetic supplements are vitamins and minerals produced in laboratories and that contain petrochemical and other substances that your natural physical body may battle to recognize and convert in the way it should. Despite the laboratory experts’ efforts to mimic the chemical structure of nutrients as it occurs in nature, it is not exactly the same thing.

Synthetic supplements may sometimes (not always), be cheaper than those derived from wholefoods or that are naturally present in herbs, but please keep in mind that synthetic supplements may lead to:

• absorption issues (natural supplements are more bioavailable and therefore you need a higher dose of the synthetic versions);
• an inability of the physical body to convert the supplements into the substance(s) it would have if it was natural (meats sources normally superior to plant sources)
• A lack of nutritional benefits;
• Negative side effects like potential toxicity, that can potentially have a serious impact on the health of an unborn baby;
• Questionable test results when you get tested for nutritional deficiencies;
etc.

So how would you know what type of supplements you are consuming?

One of my sources suggested that you check for the following appearing in the description of the ingredients: “…ate” or “…ide” in the descriptions as well as binders, coatings, colorants, fillers, preservatives, etc. Another source suggested that you also check for rounded off numbers like 100mcg, etc. Such specific numbers are normally not possible when the product ingredients were derived from natural sources.

There is also a question mark behind how natural a product might be when the product is patented.

Words like Whole Food based/ Plant based will assist with the identification of supplements derived from natural sources.

Below you will find some information that can help you to check the ingredients of supplements. If there is anything you know / are aware of that can assist with improved accuracy in terms of the information below, please do not hesitate to let us know:

Your Friend in Need information sharing – Diagnosed with Cancer, what now?

A cancer diagnosis is not something any of us would like to hear. Unfortunately, this is a diagnosis, more and more people receive, despite all the money spent on cancer research over a very long time.

For most, a cancer diagnosis immediately sounds like a death sentence, regardless of in what way the message was communicated. It therefore comes as no surprise that are many people who immediately go into a panic state, not knowing what to do or where to turn to.

Normally people who receive a cancer diagnosis will on the same day also be told what cancer treatment must commence without any delay.

Based on the responses of people who refused to be a victim of disease and who managed to recover from, what was in many cases considered as incurable, it will be wise to first calm down and take some time to consider a few other steps and options before starting with the suggested cancer treatment.

I attempted to summarize some suggestions by cancer and other serious disease survivors below:

1. Do not allow any person or fear created by what you were told, force you in any way to make a decision in terms of what to do immediately. Rather ask for and, if required, insist on time to think. Normally there is more than enough time to calm down and to think things through.

2. Take the fear and anxiety you might experience, to the true living God. If you are not a believer, you should consider discussing it with someone willing to listen patiently to you. If you are a believer, support from others will also be valuable. The ideal is to take every thought captive and reject the negative ones. Live in the present with hope for the future. It is very important to not see yourself as a victim.

3. Consider second and third opinions. Mistakes can be made.

4. Ask yourself and read up in terms of what could have caused cancer in your body. Examples are: Genetically modified foods, pesticides and drugs used on farms, preservatives, colourants, MSG, artificial sweeteners, smoking/vaping, air pollution, toxins in skin and hair and other cleaning products, dyes, chemicals in the environment, untreated bacterial infections, illegals as well as prescribed drugs, etc. The latest news about what was found in sanitary pads, is also of huge concern.

Some of you may not agree, but not all causes of cancer are of physical nature. There are also emotional and spiritual causes that could have had a serious negative impact on your body.

Deal with all possible causes identified to stop the ongoing impact thereof on your body as soon as possible.

5. Consider different types of treatment. Take your time to find information in terms of people who survived the same type of cancer and determine what they did to combat their cancer (Books, YouTube channels, etc.).

Have calm discussions with people advocating different types of treatment. A diet consisting of clean water and pasture fed and organic, wholefoods should for instance be and important part of the treatment you consider. If possible, get the different advisors, that you were impressed by, to talk to each other in order to get to an ideal treatment plan for you. It may be very difficult for you, on your own, to determine whose advice you should follow. It is also not a good idea to jump from one treatment plan to another. You need to commit to specific lifestyle changes and one treatment plan, that can be adapted as required based on how your body responds over time. Consistency and perseverance are of utmost importance.

6. Find an exercise plan to keep your body strong and that will also assist you to get rid of toxins in your body.

7. Do not let the fear felt by loved ones who do not want to lose you and others drive you into a panic state. Do not let anybody manipulate you in any way or bully you into following a treatment protocol you are not comfortable with, regardless of your age. You may have to explain calmly to the relevant people to please respect that you need to take responsibility for your own health and that pressure from others lead to increased stress levels that you need to reduce. It is very important for stress levels to be reduced. Standing strong in terms of this aspect will also play a role in terms of your commitment to a chosen treatment protocol.

8. Continuously stay focused on God, your life purpose and goals and have faith that you will recover fully to be able to do what you still need to do. The ideal is that nobody must leave this earth before it is his/her appointed time to leave it. Do not entertain any negative thoughts and do not allow yourself to be discouraged by others.

9. Accept support from people around you, who care enough to support and respect your need to keep on making decisions in terms of your own life and health.

Your Friend in Need Health information sharing – GALLBLADDER

We have noticed that the number of people who do not have their gallbladders anymore is increasing at an alarming rate.

Some of you, reading this article, may be without a gallbladder already and others may still be wondering if it is a good idea for a gallbladder to be removed.

The main reasons why there are people who may think or be convinced by others that it is a good idea to remove a gallbladder, is the intensity of the pain, fever and chills experienced when gallstones developed in the gallbladder and also a lack of knowledge in terms of how gallstones can be dissolved and prevented.

It is important to first understand why the human body was designed with a gallbladder before this topic can be discussed.
The purpose of the gallbladder is to concentrate and store bile received from the liver, where it is produced continuously.

Bile consists of bile salts, cholesterol and bilirubin as well as other substances. For those who may wonder about it, bilirubin is a waste product linked to the breakdown of old red blood cells. It is important to note that the gallbladder removes water and other substances like bilirubin from the bile to make the bile salts more concentrated.

The concentrated, cleaned up bile is stored in the gallbladder to be available for release into the small intestine. Whenever triggered by a specific hormone signal received from the small intestine, the gallbladder contracts and releases bile.

The function of the concentrated bile salts, released with the bile into the small intestine, is very important. It is required to break down fats in the food that we eat, which in turn is important to assist the body to absorb fat soluble nutrients such as Vitamin A, E, D, K, essential Omegas etc.

If proper absorption of these nutrients is not happening, it can lead to lots of other health issues. Please note that bile also binds with toxins, kills off bad microbes in the small intestine and neutralize acids in the small intestine.

When you still have your gallbladder and do not eat food with fat (preferably healthy fats) and proteins, the gall bladder will not be emptied on a regular basis, and it will create a risk of gall stones and gallbladder inflammation. It is therefore not a surprise that many people, whose gallbladders were removed, tell us that they were on low fat diets for some time before their gallbladders were removed.

Other possible causes of galls stones:
• Spikes in Estrogen that inhibits bile salts, high levels of insulin worsened by frequent eating during the day, liver issues, high cortisol levels, etc.

When a gallbladder is removed, bile flows directly and continuously from the liver into the small intestine (if bile duct is not blocked) and not only when required. This can lead to digestive issues. One of the main reasons for the digestive issues is that concentrated bile salts are not available on demand anymore.

The normal recommendation after removal of gallbladders is to eat a low-fat diet, to eat more regularly during the day and also to add more fiber, that can unfortunately make gas and cramping worse.

As explained earlier, fat in the diet and the breakdown of the fats is important to assist the body to absorb fat soluble nutrients that your body desperately needs to stay / get healthy.

Some of the consequences of a removed gall bladder are: The absence of sufficient concentrated bile salts on demand, digestive issues, anxiety (cortisol), chronic diarrhea, malabsorption of nutrients, etc.

Please note that if pain experienced was caused by a blocked bile duct and not by gallstones, the removal of the gallbladder will not help at all. The pain will remain.

So, what can be done:

In case of people who still have their gallbladders:
• In case of an issue with gallstones, visit or contact Your Friend in Need Health shop for assistance to get rid of the gallstones in a short period of time, without going through any invasive procedure.
• In case of an issue with the liver, that is for instance not producing enough bile or in case of a blocked bile duct, also visit or contact Your Friend in Need Health shop for assistance.
• In case you just want to prevent gall stones, ensure that you include healthy fats like fatty fish (also in high quality Omega 3), Coconut oil and Olive oil into your diet on a regular basis, cut all refined carbohydrates from the diet (gluten free) and try intermittent fasting and supplement with Choline, Taurine and Vitamin C that you can find at Your Friend in Need Health shop.
• Your liver and bile should be fine not to end up with Thyroid problems.
• Stop consuming any unhealthy fats. Please note that saturated fat from meats exposed to growth hormones, antibiotics and other chemicals are in general not healthy, because the toxins exposed to will be present in the fat. Other fat sources that are unhealthy are margarine, sunflower oil, palm oil etc. Saturated fat from organic, pasture fed animals is healthy when eaten in limited quantities.
• Ensure that the acidity in your stomach is high enough. At Your Friend in Need Health, we can also assist you with this.
• Stay away from food you are allergic to.
• Deal with Diabetic and pre-Diabetic issues

In case of people who do not have a gall bladder anymore:

• Supplement with Ox-bile salts (500-1000 mg 2-3 hours after meals). It is not the ideal to make the stomach alkaline while food must still be processed in stomach.
• Spread fat consumption throughout meals of the day if not using ox-bile salts. Focus on unrefined healthy fats like coconut oil and olive oil. Coconut oil does need a lot of bile salts. Can take a teaspoon full of Coconut oil after a meal. Cut all unhealthy oils (as used for fast foods) from your diet.
• Supplement with Digestive Enzymes
• Supplement with all fat-soluble vitamins. (A, D, E and K)
• Supplement with Omega 3, Choline, Taurine and Vitamin C

Your Friend in Need Health knowledge sharing – AUTISM

Most of you might have noticed that the number of people diagnosed with Autism increased dramatically. An American source mentioned the following statistics: An increase from 1 person out of every 10 000 people in 1970 to 1 out of every 54 people in 2020.

Some would say that the increase in number of people diagnosed with Autism can be explained by the fact that the methods used, to diagnose people with Autism, improved. Others are convinced that environmental factors that contribute to Autism increased dramatically.

Then there are still many doctors who still believe that genetics is a main cause of Autism, but it seems to be unlikely that genetics can be blamed for the increase in numbers.

So, what is Autism:

Based on different sources, Autism is a disorder that has to do with a person’s development, measured and compared to what is normally expected at specific developmental stages. Autism is a condition seen to be on a spectrum. The reason for this is that the challenges faced by different individuals, diagnosed with Autism, can vary significantly.

Autism can normally be identified before the age of three, but in many cases, it is diagnosed much later. It also seems to be more common in boys than girls.

Some of the most general indicators are: The person’s interaction with others, visible in the way he/she communicates and learns; repetitive behaviours; difficulty to adapt to changes; lack of focus or prolonged, intense focus on a specific thing / actions / subject, he/she is really interested in; a strong preference to eat only specific foods with specific textures; a general lack of interest in others; stiff or exaggerated body language; difficulty to understand the body language of others and difficulty to function in society.

The intelligence (IQ) of people on the Autism spectrum may vary from very low to very high. The symptoms of some diagnosed with Autism may improve over time and others not.
As per various sources, Autism normally starts in early childhood and the possible causes are in general identified as:
• Environmental
• Biological
• Genetic

Seeing that this is too general to address, we found specific sources, with experience in the treatment of Autism, to provide their perspective on more specific causes. These are:

• Different types of toxins in the body that the body battles to get rid of. (Not always picked up by a blood test. Not always also in the blood)
• Inflammation of the brain that might be as a result of a Gluten / Grain allergy
• Digestion issues, that might be linked to foods consumed such as grain, refined carbohydrates, sugar, etc.

and then, a correlation with the following was also highlighted:

• Mitochondrial disfunction
• High Homocysteine levels
• Amino Acid abnormalities

• A lack in Glutathione; Vitamin A, D, E; Zinc; Selenium; B12; Folate; C0-Q10 and Omega 3.

So, what should then be done to deal with Autism:
If you have experience in dealing with Autism, you might have heard the following advice before:
• Use clear, simple language
• Use visuals to support communication
• Break tasks down
• Ensure that the environment the person is exposed to is calm
• Keep to daily routines
• Reinforce good behaviour
• Find a good support group
etc.

BUT, we believe that most people affected would like to hear what more can be done than just managing the condition.

What we suggest are:
• Sort out any digestive issues
• Follow a Keto diet (lots of videos and advice on this on the internet)
• Supplement with Omega 3 (Good quality)
• Supplement on Minerals (Natural mineral water or mineral supplement)
• Use a very good detox product (We have one that was specifically developed for Autism)
• Use a good herbal Focus formula, if focus is an issue.
• Exposure to the sun on a frequent basis (not to get burned)
Please add your comments below if you know from experience that there are also other things that can make a significant difference.
If you would like to discuss any health issues, you can make an appointment at Your Friend in Need Health in Doringkloof Mall, Centurion, South Africa, for a Live Blood Analysis and Iridology plus other tests or just visit us for a discussion and/or the supplements you might need.
