DASO Nelson Mandela University DASO is the Democratic Alliance Students Organisation.

DASO is an ancillary organisation of the Democratic Alliance (DA) based on a tertiary campus, and therefore in itself subscribes to the vision, mission, and strategies of the DA however with its own unique focus. We, the students of the Democratic Alliance Students Organisation, rooted in the values of constitutional liberal democracy, believe that education is the cornerstone of the liberation of all South African students and the catalyst for the full realisation of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution (1996). We further believe that intellectual independence and open debate are vital to the preservation of a healthy democracy. We advocate the enrichment of the whole individual – intellectual, personal, cultural and physical – at institutions of tertiary education, through the development of academic, social, cultural and sporting facilities. We therefore commit ourselves to the protection and promotion of an open and free educational environment based on academic freedom, equality of opportunity and respect for individual worth.

Dear Madibaz

Following engagements by the DASO-led SRC, the University has approved a pilot 24-hour library service at the South Campus Library from 21 October to 12 November 2026, Monday to Thursday, during the examination period.

We are pleased that our engagements have moved the proposal from extended library hours to full 24-hour access at the main library, alongside other existing 24-hour lab available to support students during examinations.

However, we remain disappointed that the 24-hour library service will not extend to all campuses. Other libraries will retain the extended operating hours initially announced last month.

While this is progress, we believe equitable access to study facilities remains important. We will continue advocating for solutions that respond to the academic needs of students across all campuses.

Regards
DASO-LED SRC

You spoke; we listened. Now it’s time to show you what is possible.

For the past 18 months, we've been out in our communities, engaging with residents,
listening to your concerns and hearing your hopes for the future of Nelson Mandela Bay. From our residents to our youth and local businesses, one thing is clear: you want a metro that works.

We believe decisions about the future of our city shouldn't be made in a boardroom, disconnected from the people who live and work here. They should be shaped by the voices, experiences and aspirations of 𝐚𝐥𝐥 of our communities.

🎥Today, we present the DA's Vision 2031, a picture of what Nelson Mandela Bay could look like after five years of DA governance. A metro where service delivery takes priority. Where communities have opportunities to thrive. Where 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 replaces chaos, and where residents can believe in a better future.

But this future doesn't have to remain a vision. You have the power to make it a reality.

🗳️On 4 November, unite behind the DA get NMB working again because only the DA is big enough to beat the ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay, put an end to coalition chaos, and start delivering services for all.

Let's stop the chaos. Let's restore service delivery. Let's

Thank you Madibaz,

To every student who voted for DASO and continued to believe in our leadership thank you.

Even though we finished as the third party in the 2026 SRC Elections, your support remains a true reflection of the trust you have placed in us over the past two terms, we do not take that trust lightly.

These results show us clearly where students want us to improve, and we accept that responsibility. The work still continues.

DASO remains committed to serving all students of Nelson Mandela University.

Thank you for your votes, your belief, and your continued support.

We are still here, and we will continue to lead.
