Correct jewellery sizing can make all the difference during healing.
This client came in with an industrial bar that was too short to accommodate the swelling. Both ends were pressing into the tissue, leaving visible indentations, while the skin had started swelling around the lower ball.
We removed the original bar and fitted a longer one to provide the additional space needed for swelling and cleaning. In the later pictures, you can already see that the jewellery is no longer placing the same pressure on the surrounding tissue.
The additional length is intentional at this stage. Once the swelling has settled, the piercing will need to be reassessed and downsized when appropriate, as leaving a bar too long can also cause unnecessary movement and snagging.
If your jewellery starts feeling tight, appears to be sinking in, or the skin begins swelling around the ends, have it assessed as soon as possible.
