A panic attack can feel incredibly frightening 🫨

A panic attack is your body’s alarm system switching on — sometimes when there is no immediate danger. Your nervous system reacts as though you need to fight, flee, or protect yourself. The sensations are real, even when you are not in immediate danger.

The good news is that panic attacks are treatable. Understanding what is happening in your body can be an important first step towards feeling more in control.

If panic attacks are becoming frequent or affecting your daily life, speaking to a psychologist can help you understand your experiences and develop strategies to manage them.

📝 To every matric learner navigating the pressure of final exams, university applications, expectations and the uncertainty of what comes next — we know this season can feel overwhelming, and it’s okay to admit when things feel like too much.

Remember, preparing for exams isn't just about what you do with your books; it's also about how you care for yourself along the way. Give yourself grace, make space to breathe, and don't be afraid to speak up when you need support.

🌿 Your mental well-being matters just as much as your academic goals.

If exam stress is affecting your sleep, mood or ability to cope, reaching out to a therapist can provide a safe space to explore your feelings and develop healthy coping strategies.

Take it one step at a time — you've got this! 🤍

💚 World Mental Health Day

Mental health is part of being human.

It affects how we think, feel, connect with others, cope with challenges and experience everyday life. Yet, it’s often something we only talk about when we reach a breaking point.

Mental health deserves the same attention and care we give to our physical health.

There should be no shame in talking about what you’re experiencing, seeking professional support, or simply admitting that things feel difficult.

Behind closed doors, many people are dealing with anxiety, stress, grief, burnout, depression, relationship struggles or simply feeling like they’re not themselves.
You never have to have the “right” words to start a conversation.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s keep talking, keep listening and keep creating spaces where mental health can be discussed openly and without judgement.

Sometimes, the hardest part of a relationship isn’t loving each other — it’s knowing how to navigate the difficult moments together. ❤️

Every couple has disagreements, misunderstandings and seasons where they feel more disconnected than usual. What matters is learning how to work through those moments without getting stuck in the same patterns.

Couples therapy can give you a safe space to understand each other better, communicate more openly, work through unresolved hurt and learn healthier ways of handling conflict.

And you don’t have to wait until your relationship is in crisis to ask for support. Therapy can also be about strengthening something you already value and learning the tools to keep your connection strong through life’s changes.
If you’ve found yourself thinking, “We could really use some help,” that may be reason enough to reach out. 🤍

Contact us to enquire about couples therapy or to book a session.

🌿 Heritage Day: Our roots, our Identity, our well-being 🇿🇦

Heritage is more than the traditions we celebrate. It is woven into the stories we inherit, the languages we speak, the values we learn, the communities we belong to, and the ways we come to understand ourselves and the world around us.

Our cultural roots can give us a sense of belonging, connection and identity. They can shape how we express emotions, understand family and relationships, cope with challenges, and even how comfortable we feel asking for support.
But our relationship with our heritage can also be complex.

We may carry beliefs, expectations or experiences from previous generations that influence us in ways we are still discovering. Sometimes we embrace them, sometimes we question them, and sometimes we choose to do things differently.
And perhaps that is part of what makes identity so meaningful: we inherit parts of our story, but we also have a role in shaping what comes next.

Understanding our roots can help us understand ourselves with greater compassion. We can honour where we come from while making space for who we are becoming.

Happy Heritage Day, South Africa. 🇿🇦🤍

Have you ever wondered what therapy is actually like?💭

Maybe you’ve thought about going, but weren’t quite sure what to expect. Or perhaps you’ve heard things like “therapy is only for people who are struggling,” “my problems aren’t bad enough,” or “a therapist is just going to tell me what to do.”

There are so many ideas about therapy — some true, some misunderstood, and some that might be stopping you from taking that first step.

The truth is, therapy can look very different from what you might imagine. It’s not about having all the right words, having a crisis, or having something “wrong” with you.

So, if you’ve ever been curious about therapy but weren’t quite sure what it’s really about, here are a few things we wish everyone knew 👉🏼

💛 Su***de can be difficult to talk about. There is often fear around saying the wrong thing, stigma around asking for help, and misconceptions about what suicidal thoughts really mean. But avoiding the conversation doesn’t make the pain disappear. Talking can create connection, understanding and an opportunity for help.

The reality in South Africa is confronting:

🖊️23 people die by su***de every day, equating to roughly 14,000 deaths each year.
🖊️An estimated 230–400 su***de attempts occur every day in South Africa.
🖊️Su***de is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 15–29.
🖊️Men account for nearly 80% of su***de deaths in South Africa.

Behind every statistic is a person, a family and a story. This Su***de Prevention Month, let’s challenge the stigma, notice the signs, ask the difficult questions and create spaces where people feel safe enough to say, “I’m not okay.”

If you’re struggling, or worried about someone you love, please reach out.

You don’t have to wait until things become unbearable to ask for help. Help isn’t weakness. Therapy isn’t weakness. Reaching out is a strength. Sometimes, having someone listen without judgement can be the beginning of finding a way forward. 💛

🌸 Hello, Spring. A season of new beginnings. As the flowers begin to bloom, Spring Day can be a beautiful reminder that growth doesn’t always happen overnight.

Sometimes, healing looks like:

🌱 Taking one small step forward
🌱 Setting a boundary that protects your peace
🌱 Giving yourself permission to rest
🌱 Asking for support when things feel heavy
🌱 Letting go of what no longer serves you
🌱 Starting again — without expecting yourself to have it all figured out

You don’t have to bloom on anyone else’s timeline. 🌷 Your mental health journey is uniquely yours, and even small changes matter.

This Spring, ask yourself: “What do I want to nurture in myself over the next few months?”

GRIEF AWARENESS DAY 🤍

Some losses change your life in obvious ways. Others happen quietly, and you’re left carrying feelings you don’t always know how to explain. Grief can be complicated, unpredictable and deeply personal. It can affect your thoughts, your emotions, your relationships and even the way you move through everyday life.

You don’t have to “have a reason” that makes sense to everyone else. If something mattered to you, losing it can hurt. Today, we’re creating space for the grief that isn’t always spoken about — the losses that are often misunderstood, minimised or carried in silence.

Swipe through to learn more about grief and what you need to know 👉🏼
And if you’re struggling to navigate a loss on your own, therapy can provide a safe, supportive space to work through what you’re feeling. You don’t have to carry it all alone. Reach out to us to book a session. 🤍

August is National Wellness Month 🌿 A little reminder that taking care of your mental health doesn’t always look like having a perfect routine, feeling positive, or having everything figured out.

Sometimes, wellness looks like admitting that you’re having a hard day.
Taking a break without feeling guilty.
Saying no when your plate is already full.
Giving yourself permission to slow down.
Or reaching out for support before things become overwhelming.

You don’t have to wait until you’re at breaking point to take care of your mental health. Therapy can be a space to make sense of what you’re experiencing, understand yourself a little better, and develop healthier ways of coping.

So this National Wellness Month, consider this your reminder: you don’t have to do everything, feel okay all the time, or earn the right to rest. Sometimes, looking after yourself starts with simply noticing what you need — and giving yourself permission to honour it.

Swipe through for a few reminders you might need today 🌱👉🏼
