The Story of Christie Hewlett
Founder of The Health Nut | Natural Health Advocate | Wellness Warrior

Hi, I’m Christie — the heart and hands behind The Health Nut, a proudly South African wellness brand dedicated to helping families thrive with 100% natural, high-quality supplements that work. 🌿

My journey began like many of yours — as a mom trying to navigate the confusing world of health, nutrition, and pharmaceutical overload. When my son became seriously ill after a pharmaceutical intervention, I knew there had to be a better way. That moment changed everything. I poured myself into the world of natural healing — studying, experimenting, and sourcing the best nature has to offer. A range of world-class natural supplements made with only the ingredients I trust enough to give my own family. From liposomal vitamins and medicinal mushrooms to herbal formulas and detox essentials, every product is designed to support your body the way nature intended. But this isn’t just a business — it’s my calling. I’m here to challenge the narrative, empower you with real knowledge, and help you take your family’s health into your own hands. Whether you’re struggling with fatigue, gut issues, hormonal imbalance, or just want to feel your best — I’ve got you. I’m also a passionate equestrian, mom to two incredible teenagers, and a woman committed to living in alignment with nature, truth, and soul. I believe in functional nutrition, feminine strength, and the healing power of plants and purpose. ✨

Thank you for being here. I can’t wait to walk this path of vibrant health with you. Get healthy, be happy — naturally. With love,
Christie 💚

🧠 YOUR GUT AND BRAIN ARE CONSTANTLY TALKING! 🌿

Did you know that what's happening in your gut can influence how you FEEL emotionally?

And that stress and anxiety can have a direct impact on your digestion?

This is called the GUT-BRAIN AXIS, and it's one of the reasons I place so much emphasis on gut health when working with my patients!

Your gut and brain communicate constantly through a complex network involving your nervous system, hormones, immune system and gut microbiome.

And this communication goes BOTH WAYS!

🦠 1. YOUR GUT MICROBIOME MATTERS

Trillions of microorganisms live in your digestive tract.

They help produce and regulate substances involved in communication between your gut and brain, influencing how your body responds to stress.

🧠 2. YOUR GUT PRODUCES SEROTONIN

Approximately 90% of your body's serotonin is produced in your gut!

Serotonin plays important roles in digestion and other bodily functions. Although gut serotonin doesn't directly enter your brain, it forms part of the fascinating gut-brain connection.

⚡ 3. STRESS AFFECTS YOUR DIGESTION

Ever experienced butterflies in your stomach when you're nervous?

Or bloating, cramps or changes in bowel movements during stressful periods?

That's your gut-brain connection in action!

🔄 4. IT CAN BECOME A VICIOUS CYCLE

Stress can disrupt digestion and influence your gut microbiome.

Digestive discomfort can then increase feelings of stress and anxiety.

And the cycle continues!

🌿 5. SUPPORT YOUR GUT, SUPPORT YOUR OVERALL WELLBEING

Prioritise nutrient-dense whole foods, adequate hydration, quality sleep, regular movement and a healthy gut microbiome.

At The Health Nut, gut health is one of the foundations of my holistic approach.

Our Spore Probiotics and Live32 are two of my favourite products for supporting digestive and microbiome health.

💚 REMEMBER: YOUR GUT HEALTH ISN'T JUST ABOUT DIGESTION!

It's connected to your immune system, metabolism, nervous system and so much more!

You cannot look at the body as a collection of separate parts. Everything is CONNECTED!

💬 Have you noticed that your digestion changes when you're stressed or anxious?

🚨 5 EVERYDAY HABITS THAT COULD BE MAKING YOUR ANXIETY WORSE!

Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, irritable or constantly on edge?

Before accepting that this is simply how you are, take a closer look at what you're doing EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Your daily habits can have a significant impact on your nervous system, stress response and emotional wellbeing.

Here are 5 things I want you to reconsider! 👇

☕ 1. YOUR DAILY CAFFEINE HABIT

Caffeine stimulates your nervous system, can increase adrenaline and may intensify anxiety symptoms.

It can also interfere with restorative sleep, leaving you exhausted and reaching for MORE caffeine the following morning!

🍞 2. BLOOD SUGAR SPIKES AND CRASHES

Refined carbohydrates, sugary snacks and irregular meals can contribute to fluctuations in blood glucose.

These fluctuations can leave you feeling shaky, irritable, exhausted and sometimes even anxious!

Prioritise protein, healthy fats and nutrient-dense whole foods.

📱 3. CONSTANT OVERSTIMULATION

Your phone, emails, notifications, social media and endless to-do lists.

Your brain is constantly processing information!

Create boundaries around screen time and give your mind opportunities to switch off.

🌿 4. NOT GETTING ENOUGH MAGNESIUM

Magnesium is essential for normal nervous system function, energy production and muscle relaxation.

Make sure you're getting enough through your diet and consider whether supplementation may be appropriate.

😴 5. NEVER ALLOWING YOURSELF TO REST

You cannot constantly push your body and mind without giving them time to recover!

Chronic stress, insufficient sleep and an overloaded schedule can all contribute to anxiety.

💚 HERE'S MY ADVICE:

Stop treating your nervous system like it has unlimited capacity!

Nourish your body. Prioritise sleep. Move daily. Reduce unnecessary stimulation. Make time for REST.

And remember, you don't have to wait until you're completely exhausted to start looking after yourself!

Which of these 5 habits do you struggle with most? 👇

☕ YOUR MORNING COFFEE COULD BE MAKING YOUR ANXIETY WORSE! 🚨Tired. Coffee. Anxious. Poor sleep. Repeat.Sound familiar?You...

☕ YOUR MORNING COFFEE COULD BE MAKING YOUR ANXIETY WORSE! 🚨

Tired. Coffee. Anxious. Poor sleep. Repeat.

Sound familiar?

You wake up exhausted, reach for your morning coffee, and convince yourself you can't function without it.

But what if the very thing you're relying on for energy is contributing to your exhaustion AND anxiety?

Here's what I want you to understand about CAFFEINE! 👇

⚡ 1. IT STIMULATES YOUR STRESS RESPONSE

Caffeine stimulates your central nervous system and can increase adrenaline, activating your body's fight-or-flight response.

If you're already stressed, anxious or overwhelmed, adding more stimulation isn't necessarily doing you any favours!

💓 2. IT CAN MAKE ANXIETY WORSE

Heart palpitations, racing thoughts, irritability, restlessness and that constant feeling of being on edge?

Caffeine can trigger or intensify ALL of these symptoms!

😴 3. IT DISRUPTS YOUR SLEEP

Just because you fall asleep easily doesn't mean you're getting quality, restorative sleep!

Caffeine can remain in your system for HOURS, interfering with the deep sleep your body desperately needs to recover.

And when you wake up exhausted? You reach for another coffee!

🔄 4. IT CREATES A VICIOUS CYCLE

You're exhausted, so you drink coffee.

Coffee stimulates your nervous system.

You feel wired, restless or anxious.

Your sleep suffers.

You wake up exhausted AGAIN.

And the cycle continues!

🌿 5. IT CAN INCREASE MAGNESIUM LOSS

Caffeine can increase magnesium excretion through urine.

Magnesium is essential for healthy nervous system function, muscle relaxation, energy production and normal psychological function.

💚 MY ADVICE?

STOP relying on caffeine to get you through the day!

If you're drinking coffee daily, start reducing your intake gradually.

Prioritise proper nutrition, hydration, quality sleep, movement and adequate magnesium.

Your body doesn't need to be constantly stimulated. It needs to be properly NOURISHED and RESTORED!

And here's something worth remembering…

Being constantly exhausted is NOT normal. And needing caffeine just to function shouldn't be your normal either!

☕ Have you ever given up coffee and noticed an improvement in your anxiety, sleep or energy levels? I'd love to hear your experience! 👇

🚨 MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY: THE SILENT EPIDEMIC! 🚨

Did you know that magnesium deficiency and inadequate magnesium intake are widespread worldwide? 🌍

And the scary part? You could be running low on magnesium without even realising it!

Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions in your body. It plays an essential role in everything from energy production and muscle function to nervous system regulation, blood sugar control and bone health.

Yet so many people overlook this incredibly important mineral!

⚠️ SIGNS YOUR BODY MAY NEED MORE MAGNESIUM:

❌ Muscle cramps, spasms and twitching

❌ Persistent fatigue and low energy

❌ Poor sleep quality

❌ Muscle weakness

❌ Tingling or numbness

❌ Irregular heartbeat

❌ Increased susceptibility to stress

❌ Headaches and migraines

And here's something I REALLY want you to understand…

☕ YOUR DAILY CAFFEINE HABIT ISN'T HELPING!

Caffeine can increase magnesium excretion through urine, particularly at higher intakes. Combine that with chronic stress, inadequate dietary intake, excessive alcohol consumption and certain medications, and your magnesium status may suffer.

💪 MAGNESIUM IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT IF YOU EXERCISE!

Your muscles need magnesium to contract and relax properly. It also supports energy production, electrolyte balance and recovery.

And ladies, magnesium becomes especially important as we navigate perimenopause and menopause, when sleep disturbances and changes in metabolic health can become more noticeable.

🌿 THIS IS WHY I LOVE OUR MAGFULVATE!

At The Health Nut, we believe in supporting your body with the nutrients it needs to function optimally.

Our Magfulvate is one of my favourite supplements for supporting magnesium intake, healthy muscle and nerve function, and overall wellbeing.

STOP IGNORING THE SIGNS YOUR BODY IS GIVING YOU!

Magnesium is not a luxury. It's an essential mineral your body needs every single day.

WANT TO LOSE BODY FAT? STOP FEARING FAT! 🥑🔥

We've been conditioned to believe that eating fat makes us fat and that carbohydrates should form the foundation of a healthy diet.

But what if I told you that your body doesn't actually need dietary carbohydrates to produce glucose?
Understanding how your body produces energy can transform your approach to nutrition, weight loss and athletic performance!

🍞 CARBOHYDRATES
Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose during digestion. Refined carbohydrates can cause rapid blood sugar spikes, triggering a significant insulin response.
Insulin helps move glucose into your cells, but also promotes energy storage and temporarily suppresses fat burning.
A rapid blood sugar spike can be followed by a sharp drop, leaving you exhausted, shaky, hungry and struggling to perform. The last thing you want during a competition!

🥩 PROTEIN
Protein is broken down into amino acids, essential for building muscle, recovery and countless bodily functions.
But here's what many people don't realise: your liver can convert certain amino acids into glucose through GLUCONEOGENESIS.
Unlike rapidly absorbed carbohydrates, protein generally produces a more gradual blood glucose response, supporting steadier energy without the same sharp fluctuations.

🥑 FAT
Healthy fats provide sustained energy, support hormone production and keep you satisfied for longer.
Fat is broken down into fatty acids and glycerol. Your body uses fatty acids directly for energy, while glycerol can be converted into glucose when needed.
Your body has multiple ways of producing energy without constantly relying on dietary carbohydrates!

🔥 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR FAT LOSS?

Reducing carbohydrate intake while prioritising quality protein and healthy fats can encourage your body to become more efficient at using fat for fuel.
Rather than depending on frequent carbohydrate intake, your body can improve its ability to access stored fat and utilise alternative fuels.

This is part of METABOLIC FLEXIBILITY, and one reason I advocate for a whole-food, ketogenic approach to nutrition.

It's not about starvation, extreme calorie restriction or fearing healthy fats!

It's about nourishing your body, supporting stable blood sugar, building muscle and improving your ability to use fat for energy.

Whether your goal is fat loss or athletic performance, understanding your metabolism is incredibly empowering!

🥑 Eat real food.🥩 Prioritise protein.💪🏼 Build muscle.🔥 Become metabolically flexible.
Your body is designed to do so much more than run on sugar!

🍳 IS YOUR BREAKFAST MAKING YOU HUNGRIER?

You've just eaten breakfast, but two hours later you're starving, craving something sweet, struggling to concentrate or desperately needing another cup of coffee.

Sound familiar?

The problem might be what you're eating for breakfast!

Many traditional breakfast foods are packed with carbohydrates and sugar. Think cereal, toast, oats, granola, fruit juice and smoothies.

Here's what happens when you start your day with a carbohydrate-heavy meal: 👇🏼

🥐 1. YOUR BLOOD SUGAR RISES
Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, which enters your bloodstream. Refined carbohydrates, particularly when eaten without sufficient protein, fat or fibre, can cause a rapid rise in blood sugar.

📈 2. INSULIN IS RELEASED
Your pancreas releases insulin to help move glucose into your cells. Insulin also encourages energy storage and temporarily inhibits the breakdown of stored fat.

📉 3. YOUR BLOOD SUGAR CAN DROP
Following a rapid rise, some people experience a sharp decline in blood glucose, leaving them feeling tired, irritable, shaky or hungry again.

🍫 4. THE CRAVINGS BEGIN
Suddenly you're reaching for another snack, something sweet or another coffee to get you through the morning.

NOW, IMAGINE STARTING YOUR DAY DIFFERENTLY! 🥑🥚

Instead of a bowl of sugary cereal or toast and jam, try a nutrient-dense breakfast built around:

🥚 Eggs – quality protein and essential nutrients. (You need at least 5 to get 30g protein)

🥑 Avocado – healthy fats and fibre to support satiety.

🐟 Smoked salmon – protein and beneficial omega-3 fatty acids.

🥬 Leafy greens – fibre, minerals and antioxidants.

This combination helps slow digestion, supports a more gradual blood sugar response and keeps you feeling satisfied for longer.

And here's something important: Your body doesn't need dietary carbohydrates to manufacture glucose! Through gluconeogenesis, your liver can produce glucose from certain amino acids and glycerol when needed.

💚 MY ADVICE?

Stop starting your day with a sugar rush and start nourishing your body with real, whole foods.

Prioritise protein, embrace healthy fats and support stable blood sugar from your very first meal.

Because what you eat for breakfast can influence how hungry, energised and satisfied you feel for the rest of your morning!

WANT TO GET RIPPED? AND I MEAN REALLY, REALLY RIPPED? 💪🔥

Forget starving yourself, endless cardio and obsessing over the number on the scale.

If you want a lean, strong, defined body, there are THREE things I want you focusing on!

1️⃣ BUILD MUSCLE. LIFT HEAVY!

Strength train a minimum of 3 times per week, more if you can. And when I say lift heavy, I mean challenge yourself!

Muscle is your metabolic powerhouse. The more muscle you build, the more energy your body uses at rest, and the better your body becomes at managing blood sugar.

Ladies, lifting heavy weights will NOT automatically make you bulky. It will help you build the strong, sculpted body you're working towards!

2️⃣ EAT ENOUGH PROTEIN!

Most women are eating nowhere NEAR enough protein!

Aim for 1.6–2g of protein per kilogram of body weight every single day.

If you weigh 60kg, that's 96-120g of protein DAILY!

Protein is essential for building muscle, repairing tissue, supporting recovery and keeping you feeling fuller for longer.

You cannot expect to build muscle if you're not giving your body the building blocks it needs!

3️⃣ BALANCE YOUR INSULIN!

You cannot ignore your metabolic health and expect optimal results.

Insulin plays an important role in fat storage, and constantly overeating refined carbohydrates and sugar can make fat loss more difficult, particularly when insulin resistance develops.

Focus on quality protein, healthy fats, whole foods and keeping your blood sugar stable.

And remember, you don't need to starve yourself to lose body fat. You need to nourish your body properly!

STOP TRAINING TO BE SKINNY. START TRAINING TO BE STRONG!

The goal isn't simply to weigh less. It's to build muscle, reduce excess body fat, improve your metabolic health and become the strongest version of yourself.

💪 LIFT HEAVY.
🥩 PRIORITISE PROTEIN.
🔥 BALANCE INSULIN.

STRONG IS THE NEW SKINNY!

Did you know that your sleep routine could be playing a bigger role in your weight-management journey than you think? 👀

Getting enough quality sleep isn’t just about feeling rested. It’s an important part of supporting your body’s ability to regulate appetite, manage cravings and recover from training.

💤 HERE’S HOW SLEEP SUPPORTS YOUR SLIMMING GOALS:

✨ Appetite regulation: Poor sleep can affect the hormones involved in hunger and fullness, potentially leaving you feeling hungrier and less satisfied after meals.

✨ Fewer cravings: When you’re sleep-deprived, high-calorie, sugary foods can become more tempting, making it harder to stick to your nutrition goals.

✨ Better energy levels: A good night’s sleep can help you feel more energised, making it easier to stay active, train consistently and keep moving throughout the day.

✨ Muscle recovery: Sleep plays a vital role in muscle repair and recovery, helping you get more out of your training sessions.

✨ Healthy weight management: Consistently getting enough sleep can help support the habits that make sustainable fat loss easier, alongside balanced nutrition and regular exercise.

🌿 MEET MAGFULVATE

MagFulvate combines magnesium L-threonate, fulvic acid and shilajit to support your sleep and complement your daily wellness routine.

Because slimming isn’t just about eating less and training harder. It’s also about giving your body the rest and recovery it needs.

🌙 Prioritise your sleep. Stay consistent. Support your goals.

EATING LESS AND STILL NOT LOSING WEIGHT? 🥑

Here's something I wish more women understood…

STARVING YOURSELF IS NOT THE ANSWER TO SUSTAINABLE FAT LOSS!

For years, I thought the secret to being skinny was eating less and exercising more.

I ran half marathons. I did endless cardio. I restricted my food.

And yes, sometimes I was skinny. But only when I was practically starving myself. And it was NEVER sustainable!

Everything changed when I stopped focusing on being skinny and started focusing on being STRONG, LEAN AND HEALTHY.

Here's what I want you to understand:

🥑 WHAT YOU EAT MATTERS. Prioritise nutrient-dense whole foods, quality protein and healthy fats. Your body needs nourishment, not just fewer calories.

💪 MUSCLE MATTERS. Muscle is metabolically active tissue. Strength training helps preserve and build it, supporting your metabolism and improving body composition.

💚 INSULIN MATTERS. Insulin resistance can make weight management more challenging. Improving metabolic health is an important part of the bigger picture.

😴 SLEEP MATTERS. Poor sleep can disrupt appetite regulation, increase cravings and make healthy choices more difficult.

⚖️ HORMONES MATTER. Particularly during perimenopause and menopause, when hormonal changes can affect fat distribution, sleep and muscle mass.

And here's another thing…

YOU CAN LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT BECOMING HEALTHIER.

If you're losing muscle along with fat, constantly hungry, exhausted and struggling to maintain your results, it's time to rethink your approach.

You still need an appropriate energy balance to lose body fat, but that doesn't mean you need to starve yourself or follow an extreme calorie-restricted diet.

My approach?

✔️ Eat real, whole foods.
✔️ Prioritise protein.
✔️ Include nourishing healthy fats.
✔️ Minimise refined sugars and processed carbohydrates.
✔️ Lift heavy weights.
✔️ Sleep well.
✔️ Be consistent.

STOP TRYING TO EAT AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. START EATING TO BUILD THE HEALTHIEST VERSION OF YOURSELF! 💚

💚 THINKING ABOUT GLP-1 INJECTIONS FOR WEIGHT LOSS? LET'S TALK BERBERINE!

If you've been considering weight-loss injections, but would prefer to explore a natural approach to supporting your metabolism, there's a plant compound I want you to know about!

BERBERINE! 🌿

Berberine has been attracting attention for its potential benefits in blood sugar regulation, insulin sensitivity and metabolic health.

And here's why that's important…

INSULIN PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN HOW YOUR BODY STORES AND USES ENERGY.

When your body becomes resistant to insulin, maintaining healthy blood sugar levels becomes more difficult, and managing your weight can become increasingly challenging.

SO WHAT CAN BERBERINE DO?

💚 SUPPORT INSULIN SENSITIVITY – Helps your body respond more effectively to insulin.

💚 SUPPORT BLOOD SUGAR REGULATION – Has demonstrated improvements in glucose control in clinical studies.

💚 SUPPORT METABOLIC HEALTH – Influences pathways involved in glucose and fat metabolism.

💚 SUPPORT WEIGHT MANAGEMENT – Leads to reductions in weight and waist circumference.

💚 SUPPORT HEALTHY LIPID LEVELS – Improves cholesterol and triglyceride markers.

BUT HERE'S THE IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE!

Berberine is NOT a natural version of GLP-1 medication. It doesn't work in the same way, and it hasn't demonstrated the substantial weight-loss effects seen with prescription GLP-1 treatments.

What it does offer is an interesting, plant-derived option for supporting certain aspects of metabolic health.

Prioritise protein. Build muscle. Strength train. Get enough sleep. Reduce refined sugars and carbohydrates. Look after your metabolic health.

Because my goal has never been simply to help people become lighter.

It's to help people become stronger, leaner and healthier.

⚠️ Berberine can interact with medications, particularly those used for diabetes. Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
