No person or child with a disability is supposed to be deprived of something as essential as nappies. Providing nappies for children with disabilities is the responsibility of the government through the Department of Health.
Denying children nappies, the most important incontinence management product for children with disabilities is against the country's Constitution which guarantees basic health care for everyone.
The need is overwhelming and hundreds, if not thousands, of children with disabilities, literally go without nappies, compromising their health, dignity, comfort and freedom of movement.
Nappies are only one example of the government's neglect to uphold the rights of children with disabilities. They are also denied essential assistive devices like wheelchairs, hearing aids, customised mobility and seating devices, prostheses and many more. Children have to wait for up to six years for their assistive devices while many never receive them.
You can become an agent for change.
Be a voice. Raise your voice. Make a stand against the injustices committed against our children.
Rolling for awareness without limits.
The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities ( NCPD ) and Radio NFM are setting out on a journey totalling a radius of 1 000 km. Brunhild Strauss will be visiting 20 towns and four municipalities by hand - cycle in the rural areas of the Namaqua region.
This journey of 30 days will raise awareness about disability matters and distribute much needed nappies for children and adults with disabilities.
You can be part of this selfless and strenuous effort for persons and children with disabilities by making a contribution.
For more information or for supporting this noble expedition, contact Brunhild Strauss .strauss on 082 3064 634.
