👁️ WORLD SIGHT MONTH 2026 | BRINGING EYE CARE CLOSER TO OUR COMMUNITIES
In commemoration of World Sight Month and World Sight Day, observed on the second Thursday of October each year — 8 October 2026, Sinazongwe Town Council, through the Department of Health Services, has been conducting an intensive Primary Eye Care and Cataract Surgical Camp across Sinazongwe District.
Running from 21 September to 11 October 2026, the programme is taking essential eye-care services closer to communities, particularly people who may otherwise face geographical, financial and other barriers to accessing specialised eye care.
The comprehensive services being provided include general eye screening, cataract screening, cataract surgery, treatment and referral of identified eye conditions, and free distribution of reading glasses to eligible clients. The outreach is being conducted by the Department's Ophthalmic Officers, working together with Cataract Surgeons to ensure that clients identified with operable cataracts progress from community screening to sight-restoring surgery.
This initiative reflects the commitment of Sinazongwe Town Council's Department of Health Services to strengthening accessible, equitable and people-centred healthcare and to supporting the national vision of taking essential health services as close to the people as possible. Every person screened, every pair of reading glasses provided and every successful cataract operation represents more than a health service—it can mean restored independence, productivity, dignity and quality of life.
The programme has been made possible with the valued support of [Maamba Energy Limited](https://www.maambaenergy.com/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) and [Operation Eyesight](https://operationeyesight.com/?utm_source=chatgpt.com), whose partnership demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when Local Government, health professionals, communities and cooperating partners work together to prevent avoidable blindness.
As we commemorate World Sight Day 2026, our message remains clear:
👁️ Your Sight, Our Priority.
Bringing quality eye-care services closer to the community.
Together, we can prevent avoidable blindness and preserve the gift of sight.
