PHOTO FOCUS: OVER 400 MARKETEERS AND RESIDENTS ACCESS FREE EYE CARE AT KAWAMA MARKET ⭐️

Over 400 marketeers and residents at Kawama Market in Ndola have benefited from free eye care services and received hygiene kits through a Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) outreach conducted as part of World Sight Week.

The initiative promotes eye health, encourages early detection of eye conditions and raises awareness of the importance of regular eye screening in preventing avoidable sight loss.

The distribution of hygiene kits further reinforces ZFDS’s commitment to preventive healthcare and the promotion of healthier communities.

ZFDS acknowledges and extends its sincere gratitude to Children International Zambia (CIZ) and OneSight for their valuable support in making these interventions possible.

Through such partnerships and community-based outreaches, ZFDS continues to extend essential health services beyond healthcare facilities, reaching people where they live and work.

ZFDS CONDUCTS EMERGENCY MEDEVAC FOR 43-YEAR-OLD PATIENT FROM SOLWEZI ⭐️

The Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS) this morning successfully conducted an emergency medical evacuation of a 43-year-old female patient from Solwezi General Hospital to the University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) in Lusaka for specialised medical management.

The patient was referred from Solwezi General Hospital for suspected Hemolytic uremic syndrome 21 days post delivery. She was managed for severe eclampsia complicated by acute kidney injury at the referring Hospital.

Given her unstable condition and the need for specialised care, air evacuation was requested to facilitate her timely transfer to Lusaka.

The mission was undertaken by pilots Col. Lasford Manchishi and Siphosami Zulu, supported by paramedics Beatrice Chikumbi and Bwalya Chisanga.

Upon arrival in Lusaka, the patient was successfully handed over to the receiving medical team for continued specialised treatment.

This mission underscores ZFDS’s vital role in facilitating timely access to specialised healthcare through emergency medical evacuation, particularly for patients requiring urgent care beyond the capacity of their referring facilities.

The outreaches will cover:

📍 Kabuta — Luapula Province
📍 Mushiwe — Copperbelt Province
📍 Mboroma — Central Province
📍 Luamfula — North-Western Province

Services will include Vitamin A supplementation, deworming, nutrition assessments and growth monitoring, routine and catch-up immunisation, HPV vaccination for eligible nine-year-old girls, early childhood development services, early infant diagnosis of HIV and linkage to care, as well as health and nutrition promotion.

ZFDS Chief Nursing Officer, Sr. Florence Mambwe, confirmed that four teams are ready for deployment. The first team will depart on 11 October 2026, with the remaining teams scheduled to begin their outreaches on 18, 25 and 26 October 2026.
