Yoghurt is a fabulous fridge staple and makes not only a perfect snack, but can be a great addition to breakfast, a protein boost to smoothies, a great base for dips and dressings and a sour cream alternative.

After weight loss surgery we encourage you to choose a higher protein option that tastes great. There is no need to stick to the ultra low fat or ‘diet’ varieties.

When looking for a weight loss surgery friendly yoghurt you can use the following Selection Criteria to make a great choice:
✔️ Greater than 5g protein per 100g
✔️ Less than 10g sugar per 100g
✔️ Less than 2g fat per 100g.

Some of our Top Picks we have found using this criteria are as follows:
✔️ Aldi Yoguri High Protein Yoghurt range
✔️ Coles Perform High Protein Greek Yoghurt
✔️ Chobani Fit Yoghurt range
✔️ Danone YoPro range
✔️ Jalna Pot Set Fat Free Natural Yoghurt
✔️ Siggi's 0.5% Milkfat Yoghurt range
✔️ Vaalia Probiotic Natural Yoghurt
✔️ Woolworths High Protein Plain Yoghurt.

The Selection Criteria and Top Picks are just a taste of what you will find in our Shopping Companion.

It provides clear instructions on how to read food labels across a range of food categories.

A medium sized protein smoothie can contain around 60g of carbs, similar to four slices of bread 😳

Many of you would not fit four slices of bread in your pouch or sleeve. However, you can sip on a smoothie and it gradually moves through your tummy, never giving you a clear signal that you've had enough.

This can lead to overeating without you even realising it, essentially 'out eating' your surgery 😳

It is sneaky habits just like this that can undo your restriction, and that is exactly what we will be diving into in our FREE online workshop, Halt the Weight Regain Train!

In this hour long, practical session, you will learn how to stop working against your surgery and make it work for you again.

It’s completely FREE, and you will walk away with strategies you can start using today.

A common question we hear after bariatric surgery is, “How fast should I be losing weight?” 🤷‍♀️

The truth is, there is no single “normal” rate of weight loss.

Everybody is different, so we thought we'd take a deep dive into this one over on the blog ==> https://nfwls.org/545

Plateaus are a normal AND expected part of the weight loss surgery journey. Your body could be taking a moment to pause, and things soon sort themselves out.

Or . . . it could be that you are being tripped up by 'Common Culprits' that you can change to start losing weight again.

The three most 'Common Culprits' that we see involved in plateaus and weight regain that might be letting you down are as follows:

1️⃣ Eating and drinking too close together.

2️⃣ Grazing on slider foods.

3️⃣ Not meeting your protein target each day.

We will be deep-diving into these and more in our hour-long, FREE online workshop, Halt the Weight Regain Train.

We will not only pinpoint more culprits, but give you practical strategies to start turning things around 💪🏻

Reaching a stable weight does not mean your weight needs to stay EXACTLY the same.

Weight can vary day to day or week to week and this is ok.

A more effective way to monitor weight is to set a healthy range based on where you feel comfortable using a traffic light system.

🟩 The Green Zone is a 2-3kg variation either side of where you feel comfortable. It is a signal to keep doing what you are doing.

🟧 The Amber Zone is 3-4kg variation either side of where you feel comfortable. It is a signal to refocus on the basics and see where things are ‘creeping’.

🟥 The Red Zone is a 5kg or more variation either side of where you feel comfortable. It is a signal to check back in with your team, or reach out to us for support, and we are here to help.

If you are looking for experienced bariatric dietitians to help guide you to the Green Zone, check out our Support Options.

What makes a nut paste (or nut butter) a good choice is not what is added to it, but what is NOT added to it.

Try to select nut butters without added sugars, additives and preservatives. When looking at a nut paste or butter, check the ingredients list. The fewer ingredients you find, the better 👌

Some of our Top Picks include:
✔️ Aldi Oh So Natural Almond Spread
✔️ Bega Simply Nuts Peanut Butter range
✔️ Coles ABC Spread
✔️ Fix and Fogg Nut Butter range
✔️ Macro Nut Spread range
✔️ Mayver’s Nut Pastes and Nut Butters
✔️ Noya Nut Butter range
✔️ Pic’s Peanut Butter range.

Could eating from food packets lead to plateaus and weight regain?

Yes!

If we don’t pre-plan our portion, it can be very easy to eat more than we would choose to eat if we looked at that portion on a plate.

This is a form of grazing, which can quickly lead to a plateau or weight regain 😔

However, you can prevent, or even turn this around with our FREE, 20 Day Weight Regain Prevention Checklist!
