PROTEIN: HOW MUCH DO YOU REALLY NEED?
Let’s get one thing straight. Protein is important, but you don’t need to turn every meal into a bodybuilding competition.
Your muscles, bones, enzymes and countless other tissues rely on protein to support repair, maintenance and everyday function.
So, how much is enough?
HERE’S YOUR SCIENCE-BACKED STARTING POINT:
If you’re physically active: Around 1.6–2.2 g of protein per kg of goal body weight per day can be a useful target, particularly if you’re resistance training.
If you’re relatively inactive: Around 1.2 g/kg per day may be a reasonable starting point, depending on your individual needs and circumstances.
BUT HERE’S THE IMPORTANT BIT…
These are guidelines, NOT nutritional commandments.
You don’t automatically get better results by chasing the highest number. Your overall energy intake, training, age, health and individual goals all influence your protein requirements.
THE CK PRACTICAL PLAYBOOK:
Include a quality protein source at regular meals.
Mix things up with fish, eggs, dairy, lean meats, legumes, tofu and other protein-rich foods.
Leave room for fibre, vegetables, fruit, healthy fats and those other nutritional heavy hitters.
Think consistency over perfection. A few grams above or below your target isn’t a nutritional emergency.
THE TAKE-HOME MESSAGE?
Protein should support your health and training, not become another source of stress.
Eat well. Train smart. Recover properly.
And remember… there’s more to a healthy body than how much protein you can squeeze onto a dinner plate!
No fads. No food police. Just good nutrition backed by good science.
