🕯️ A Time to Remember, A Time to Reflect
A Time to Come Together 💛

Grief is deeply personal, and there is no right or wrong way to remember someone we love. Sometimes, simply coming together with others who understand the significance of remembrance can bring a little comfort, connection and peace.

Our Community Memorial is a special opportunity to pause, reflect, honour and celebrate the lives of those who have touched our hearts. The evening is gently facilitated by the wonderful Mary Ann Egan, Celebrant, in collaboration with the Rosehaven team.

We invite you to share a light meal and refreshments, with an opportunity to connect, share stories and enjoy the warmth of community. If you'd like, bring a photo of your special person.

You don't need to have been part of Rosehaven's journey to be part of this special gathering. You simply need someone in your heart you would like to remember. 💛

All are welcome.

Thank you Nic Aunger and filmmaker Lucy Pijnenburg for sharing your amazing journey in the process of making the documentary A Story of Endings.
This was such a beautifully illustrated film exploring the changing of death care practices and the work of four death doulas in Victoria, Australia.
The afternoon tea was amazing and conversation that follow the film was so thorough provoking.

🧡 Thinking of Helen Haines

The Rosehaven family joins our wider community in sending heartfelt thoughts and warm wishes to Helen Haines, her family, her team, and those close to her during this incredibly difficult time.

In moments like these, we are reminded of the strength of community, the importance of kindness, and the comfort that comes from knowing others care.

A book of messages of support is available at the Rosehaven Shop, and we warmly invite community members to add their own words of encouragement and care.

Helen, you are in our thoughts, and we wish you strength, comfort and healing in the days ahead. 🧡

For 3 days this week Rosehaven board member Toni attended the the Australian & New Zealand Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Conference in Melbourne.
The conference was an extraordinary few days of learning and shared purpose. The conversations engaged in explored how VAD can be included as part of the toolkit in dying well, the emerging evidence around dementia and decision making, and the vital importance of telehealth in ensuring equitable access.
There was lots of conversations around, is it possible to have one end-life-system?
A system that integrates VAD, palliative care and other end-of-life services in one person-centred and collaborative offering?

A key takeaways was from Fiona Antony “choice without access isn't really choice, and palliative care and VAD shouldn't operate in isolation.”

🌼 NATIONAL CARERS WEEK: 11th-17th OCTOBER 2026 🌼

Care for a Carer: Making Carers Visible
Behind every person receiving care, there is often someone quietly giving so much of themselves. A partner, a parent, a child, a friend or a neighbour. Someone whose love, patience, and commitment make an extraordinary difference every single day.

This National Carers Week, we join communities across Australia in recognising the more than 3 million unpaid carers who provide vital support to their loved ones.

At Rosehaven Hospice, we understand that caring for the carer is just as important as caring for the person they love.

Through respite care, outreach, transport, companionship and practical support services, we help ease the demands of caring, giving carers opportunities to rest, recharge, attend to their own needs and simply enjoy being themselves for a while.

Support is about more than providing a break. It's about protecting the wellbeing of the whole family, nurturing relationships, reducing isolation, and helping people remain together, comfortably and confidently, in their own homes for as long as possible.

This year's theme, Care for a Carer: Making Carers Visible, reminds us that caring often happens quietly, behind closed doors, and that carers deserve to be seen, heard, valued, and supported.

If you are caring for someone and could use a little support, please reach out to our friendly Rosehaven team. Come along to our Open Day on Saturday 24th October to find out more about our carer programs and how we can help.

To every carer in our community - we see you, we appreciate you, and you matter too.

Because no one should have to walk the caring journey alone.
And we're here for you, too. 💛
