🤝 Brett Casey appointed to Gallaudet University Board of Trustees

On behalf of our board and staff, we're thrilled to congratulate our CEO, Brett Casey, on his appointment to the Board of Trustees of Gallaudet University.

Based in Washington, D.C., Gallaudet is an internationally recognised university for Deaf and hard of hearing students, with a long history of leadership in Deaf education, research and advocacy.

Brett's appointment is an exciting opportunity for an Australian Deaf leader to contribute to the future direction of one of the most influential institutions in the international Deaf community.

Deaf Connect has a longstanding relationship with Gallaudet through initiatives including the Gallaudet University Immersion Program (GUIP) and our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This appointment does not impact Brett's role as CEO of Deaf Connect.

We congratulate his appointment and wish him every success in this new role👏

Swipe for your November Signed Storytime sessions 👉📚

Offered across the Moreton Bay region, QLD, our Signed Storytime events offer free fun for kids and families with interactive storytelling sessions, featuring rhymes, songs and picture book stories!

These sessions are assisted by a Deaf Connect Auslan interpreter and presented in spoken English by local library staff.

Week 1 at Gallaudet is officially done for Tan, our Gallaudet University Immersion Program participant! 🦬

Here is their recap of the first week. We learn about BisonTank, where alumni pitch business ideas to a panel of judges, like Shark Tank. The name comes from Gallaudet’s mascot, a bison. From there, Tan covers Homecoming, plus what they’re learning in the leadership workshops.

These storytime sessions offer interactive storytelling sessions led by a Deaf presenter in their primary language, serving as a positive role model for young Deaf and hard of hearing children.
