🥸 MOVEMBER | Men’s Health Matters 💚

This November, Vineyard Medical Centre is supporting Movember and encouraging the men in our community to put their health first.

Men’s health is about more than just physical wellbeing. Movember shines a light on some of the biggest health issues affecting men, including mental health and su***de prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

It’s also a great reminder to check in — with yourself, your mates, your partner, your dad, your brother or the other men in your life.

💚 Don’t ignore changes in your health
💚 Keep up with regular health checks and screenings
💚 Talk about your mental health
💚 Know your family history and risk factors
💚 Reach out for support when you need it

Sometimes starting the conversation is the hardest part. A routine appointment with your GP is a great opportunity to discuss any concerns and make sure your health checks are up to date.

👨‍⚕️ This Movember, make your health a priority.

📱 Book an appointment with one of our GPs via HotDoc or contact our reception team.

🌸 Are you up to date with your cervical screening?

A few minutes for your health could make a lasting difference. Regular cervical screening helps prevent cervical cancer by detecting human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause changes to cells in the cervix.

💗 Who should screen? Women and people with a cervix aged 25–74 who have ever had sexual contact—even if you’ve had the HPV vaccine.

📅 How often? Usually every five years, unless your healthcare provider recommends earlier follow-up.

🌸 You have choices. You may be able to collect your own vaginal sample using a swab. Ask your GP about self-collection and which option is suitable for you.

Not sure when you’re due? Contact the National Cancer Screening Register on 1800 627 701or speak with your GP.

Book an appointment at Vineyard Medical Centre to discuss your cervical screening with Nurse Erin, Nurse Lauren or your GP. If you’re overdue or have never screened, we’re here to support you. 💕

💙 Your bowel screening kit could save your life—don’t leave it in the drawer!

Bowel cancer can develop without noticeable symptoms. When found early, more than 90% of cases can be successfully treated.

The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program offers eligible Australians aged 45–74 a FREE home test every two years.

📬 Aged 50–74? Your kit is automatically mailed to you every two years.

📞 Aged 45–49? Request your first free kit by calling 1800 627 701 or visiting [www.ncsr.gov.au](https://www.ncsr.gov.au/).

🏠 The test can be completed in the privacy of your own home. Follow the instructions and return your samples using the prepaid envelope provided.

Have symptoms? Don’t wait for a screening kit. If you notice blood in your poo, ongoing changes to your bowel habits or unexplained weight loss, see your GP promptly.

Questions about screening or your family history? The team at Vineyard Medical Centre is here to help. 💙

🎀 Have you booked your breast screen?

Life gets busy, but your health deserves time. Breast screening can help find breast cancer early, before it can be seen or felt.

💗 Women aged 50–74 are invited to have a FREE screening mammogram every two years through BreastScreen Australia.

💗 Women aged 40–49 and 75 or over can also access free screening. Speak with your GP about whether screening is right for you.

📞 Call 13 20 50 to book your appointment.

Breast screening is for women without symptoms. If you notice a breast change or have any concerns, make an appointment with your GP promptly—don’t wait for your next screen.

The team at Vineyard Medical Centre is here to help if you have questions about your breast health. 💕

⛈️🌿 Thunderstorm asthma — be prepared this pollen season

Did you know certain thunderstorms, combined with high grass pollen levels, can trigger sudden asthma symptoms? People with asthma or springtime hay fever may be at risk — even if they’ve never been diagnosed with asthma.

Help protect yourself:
🏠 Stay indoors before and during thunderstorms, especially during the wind gusts ahead of a storm. Keep windows and doors closed.
💊 Take your prescribed asthma medication and keep your reliever handy.
📋 Follow your asthma action plan and check it’s up to date.
🌾 Keep an eye on local pollen forecasts and thunderstorm asthma warnings.

Watch for wheezing, persistent coughing, chest tightness or shortness of breath. Follow your asthma action plan and seek medical help promptly if symptoms develop.

🚨 For severe difficulty breathing, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

If you have asthma or hay fever, book an appointment with your GP at Vineyard Medical Centre to discuss how to prepare this season. 💚
