International White Cane Day
Celebrating confidence, skill and mobility. The white cane is more than an accessibility tool, it’s a symbol of independence, confidence and freedom for more than 453,000 Australians living with low vision or blindness.
On International White Cane Day, we recognise the role the white cane plays in supporting autonomy and independence, while celebrating our low vision and blindness community and the many ways they challenge perceptions of what’s possible. From pursuing careers and participating in sport, to enjoying hobbies and embracing adventure, people living with low vision or blindness are living life on their own terms - and the white cane helps make that possible.
This International White Cane Day, let’s celebrate achievement, learn how to be better allies, and help create a more inclusive world filled with opportunity. The white cane isn’t just an accessibility tool. It’s a symbol of skill, determination and courage and is a reminder that a lack of sight is not a lack of vision.
