There’s a special story behind these prosthetics.

We recently had the pleasure of working with a wonderful gentleman who is a bilateral amputee.

When it came time to choose the design for his prosthetics, he knew exactly what he wanted.

Blue jays.

Not simply because he liked the birds, but because they hold a special meaning for him and represent his love for his mom.

It’s a small detail that makes these prosthetics uniquely his.

We’re grateful he trusted us to bring his idea to life, and even more grateful that he shared the story behind it with us.

🐶🦿 PUG LIFE. MEET RUBY! ❤️

Some people wear their hearts on their sleeves. Our patient wears Ruby on their prosthesis! 🐾

When one of our patients wanted to celebrate their beloved pug, Ruby, we knew this had to be something special.

From a beautiful pug portrait to an adorable Easter-themed Ruby, we incorporated these photos into the lamination of their custom transtibial prosthetic socket.

Because sometimes the smallest details carry the biggest meaning. ❤️

At Biodesign, we believe a prosthesis should do more than help you move. It should reflect who you are, what you love, and what makes you smile.

And let’s face it… Ruby looks pretty darn good on a prosthesis! 🐶

Meet George! 🦅

One of the greatest joys of what we do is getting to know the wonderful people who walk through our doors.

George is one of those genuinely kind, warm-hearted gentlemen who always brings a smile to our faces. He’s an absolute pleasure to spend time with, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to be part of his journey.

We recently had the pleasure of creating this custom prosthesis for George, featuring a beautiful bald eagle design. And while we’re proud of how it turned out, it’s the smile and thumbs-up in this photo that mean the most to us.

After all, prosthetics is about so much more than the devices we create. It’s about people, trust, relationships, and helping each person continue doing the things they love.

POLIO DOESN’T FOLLOW A TEXTBOOK. NEITHER CAN WE.

Working with people living with the lifelong effects of polio is some of the most complex—and humbling—work we do as orthotists.

There is rarely a simple answer.

Decades of muscle imbalance, weakness, compensation, joint changes and incredibly unique ways of moving mean that sometimes the first design isn’t the final design.

Sometimes neither is the second.

You assess.
You design.
You fabricate.
You fit.
You watch them walk.

Then you listen.

And sometimes—you go back and change it.

Different alignment. Different materials. Different stiffness. Different joints. Different forces. Sometimes an entirely different approach.

That isn’t failure. That’s orthotics.

Because the goal isn’t to build a beautiful brace.

The goal is to build the right brace for the person wearing it.

And getting there can take time.

It can be frustrating. It can be expensive. It can push the limits of funding models that don’t always recognize how much clinical time, fabrication, modification and redesign complex patients actually require.

But in my experience, orthotists tend to go the distance.

Why?

Because when someone has spent a lifetime figuring out how to keep moving, they deserve a clinician willing to keep figuring it out with them.

We may not get everything perfect on the first attempt.

But we assess. We adapt. We rebuild. We learn.

And we keep going.

Because sometimes a few degrees of alignment, a change in stiffness, or one design iteration can mean the difference between struggling through the day and moving through it with confidence.

That’s the challenge.

That’s the craft.

That’s orthotics.

Meet Charlie Sue. 💚

Her parents have given us the privilege of being part of her journey, trusting the team at Biodesign Prosthetics & Orthotics to help guide the growth and shape of her little head.

For 20 years, Biodesign has been caring for babies with cranial asymmetry and providing cranial remolding helmet treatment. Over those years, we’ve had the opportunity to work alongside families, physicians and other healthcare professionals to help little ones achieve the best possible outcomes.

We know that when you’re a parent, even a small concern about your baby can feel like a very big one. That’s why our approach is built around experience, careful assessment, advanced technology and—most importantly—compassionate, individualized care.

And sometimes the smallest patients make the biggest impression on us. ❤️

Some feet don’t fit any mold — because no mold exists for them.
This patient’s foot is inverted 90° from normal, bearing weight directly on the ankle bone. There is no standard device for this. So our technicians built one from scratch — hand-shaped, fitted, and refined in close collaboration with our certified prosthetist & orthotists, matched precisely to this patient’s anatomy. #
This is the work our team does every day: solving the cases with no off-the-shelf answer. It’s the difference between walking and a wheelchair. Between independence and bedside care.
