Meet Helen.

When her family arrived in Calgary in 2005, Helen was searching for support and resources for her neurodivergent son. Through our family based programs, they found guidance, community, and hope.

Today, Helen has come full circle, supporting other families as an Easter Seals Alberta Guardianship and Trusteeship Coordinator.

"Being part of the Easter Seals family didn't just give us resources; it gave us community, hope, and the strength to thrive together."

Our annual Report to Community is out, and this year it honours a milestone: Easter Seals Alberta's 75th anniversary.

Along with the year's results from November 2024 to December 2025, we wrote the report as a set of postcards from our past. The organization started in 1951 as a small, community-driven effort. Today, families know us through Camp Horizon in Kananaskis, the Family Resource Centre, and McQueen Home in Edmonton. Since 1951, Easter Seals Alberta has served generations of Albertans, working to ensure that "disability" never means "lack of opportunity."

We'll be sharing each postcard here over the coming weeks.

Meet McKinley.

Living with multiple chronic health conditions hasn't stopped McKinley from pursuing her goals. As a University of Alberta student and member of the Pandas Women's Basketball Team, she balances academics, athletics, and her health with determination and resilience.

"Receiving an Easter Seals Alberta Scholarship has made balancing university, athletics, and my health more manageable."

Today, McKinley is sharing her story and gratitude for the donors who have helped make her journey possible.

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM).

This month, we recognize and celebrate the skills, talents, and contributions of people with disabilities in workplaces across Alberta and Canada.

DEAM is an opportunity to raise awareness about the barriers that still exist in employment and to encourage employers, organizations, and communities to create workplaces where everyone can thrive.

At Easter Seals Alberta, we believe that inclusive employment benefits everyone. When barriers are removed and opportunities are accessible, people with disabilities can contribute their unique perspectives, strengths, and talents to the workforce.

Together, let's build workplaces where inclusion is not an initiative, but an everyday practice.

This is what a weekend at our Youth Sleepover Camp looks like...

Campers arrive on Friday and get to have dinner together, then they gather at the campfire for a snack before bed in our accessible bunkbeds! Saturday is a full day of arts and crafts, team games on the low ropes, soaring on our giant swing, exploring the forest, and a slumber party that night. Sunday wraps up with a hearty breakfast, a quick scamper up the climbing wall, and a yummy lunch before heading home full of stories and new memories!

Our Youth Sleepover runs Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25. Youth ages 7 to 17.

For Courtney, Easter Seals has been a journey of connection, confidence, and discovering her voice.

After moving to Alberta, Courtney found a new community through Camp Horizon, where she made lifelong friends, tried new experiences, and gained confidence along the way. Recently, Courtney became an Easter Seals Alberta Ambassador, a role which allows her to share her story with audiences across the province.

Today, Courtney uses her voice to help others better understand what it's like to live with a disability and to show how opportunities, resources, and community can make a lasting difference.

"Sharing my life experiences and the challenges I face every day has helped me find a voice."

For the past 14 years, McQueen Home has been more than a place to live for Jen. It's been a home, a community, and a family.

Five days after her 30th birthday, a life-changing accident left her paralyzed. When an opportunity to move into McQueen Home became available, she took it. Looking back, she says it was one of the best decisions she has ever made. Since then, Jen has built lasting friendships, shared countless memories with her roommates and family, and found a supportive community that has helped her live independently and stay connected to the activities she enjoys.

Today, Jen is sharing her story and a heartfelt message of gratitude to the donors whose generosity has helped make that possible.
