THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD

Not long ago when I arrived at my clinic, the alarm system next door was beeping and continued beeping the whole time I was there, probably due to a low battery. I’m quite calm most of the time, but the noise was REALLY annoying. However, after I left the office, I had this interesting realization. As irritating as that constant beeping was, after a while it became white noise and I didn’t notice it too much until I actually thought about it. However, even when I wasn’t focused on it, I felt off and out of sorts. And, truth be told, I was a little bit cranky.

That beeping is synonymous to the annoying, anxious, and stressful thoughts that many of us have constantly circulating in our subconscious mind. They quite often bubble to the surface as worry, and plague us until we become anxious, stressed, and yes, irritated.

Does this perhaps sound like you?

Worry, anxiety, and stress simply come from projecting your subconscious thoughts into the future and imagining something bad. So this is your take-away today: THE GREATEST WEAPON AGAINST STRESS AND ANXIETY IS OUR ABILITY TO CHOOSE ONE THOUGHT OVER ANOTHER. Studies have proven that the act of choosing positive thoughts has a direct effect on your nervous system, your physical health, your day-to-day experiences, the choices you make, your relationships, and your outlook on life.

If you’re having difficulty staying positive, mindful, and focused on the Now, or feel that the weight of the world is resting on your shoulders, contact us at Touchstone Health (https://touchstonehealthcalgary.com). By using B.E.S.T. (Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique), we can help remove the annoying “beeping” of those heavy, negative, limiting thoughts and beliefs that are holding you down and interfering with your health and happiness.

You’re not Atlas. Isn’t it time to let go of what’s weighing YOU down?

DECIDE

Life is sometimes full of inconvenient, disappointing, annoying struggle. And we all have made mistakes and regret things from the past. But here’s a news flash, boys and girls, you are not your mistakes, and you are not your struggles, and you are present today, in this moment, with the power to change and shape your day and your future.

My struggles and mistakes do not define me, but the way I’m going to face it and handle it will help shape me as a person. I can choose to come prepared for challenging situations to help move things along, and to be patient and kind to anyone I’m going to deal with to help resolve any problem.

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross said, “The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of those depths.”

Long story short: if there is no struggle, there is no progress.

So, the struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow. Strength doesn’t come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through struggles and decide not to give up, that, my friends, is strength.

Life has two rules:
#1. Never quit.
#2. Always remember Rule #1.

Have a great weekend.

CHILDHOOD IS FUN AND GAMES

Who said childhood is just fun and games?

For many of us, remembering our childhood doesn’t evoke feelings of happy nostalgia, but instead sends a shiver down the spine. For example, if you were a victim of emotional or physical abuse in any form, it’s almost impossible to have any fuzzy, fun feelings about your youth.

To add fuel to the fire, it turns out that trauma experienced during childhood can have ongoing consequences, increasing your risk of disease later in life. These can include cancer, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders.

When it comes to trauma, it's imperative to understand that it’s not about WHAT happened, but HOW it impacted us. Even if something might seem insignificant for one person, it may still be a source of lasting trauma for another. This is where B.E.S.T. (Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique) comes in.

The Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique (BEST), developed by Dr. M.T. Morter, Jr. over 50 years ago, is a gentle, hands-on healing system used to address stress and promote balance in the body including the nervous, muscular, circulatory, digestive, and hormonal systems. Clinical experience has shown that by stimulating specific pressure points as part of the B.E.S.T. procedure, your body will not only begin to feel better, but will actually begin to repair and rebuild. By taking this approach, you are taking steps to learn to maintain this balance in the days, weeks, and months that follow.

Contact us today at Touchstone Health (https://touchstonehealthcalgary.com) and schedule your first B.E.S.T. treatment. We’ll work with you to change those subconscious patterns that are keeping you stuck in your story and stuck in your pain and holding you back from reaching your potential.

Agatha Christie said, “One of the luckiest things that can happen to you in life is, I think, to have a happy childhood.”

For the rest of us, thank heavens there is B.E.S.T.

THE BITTER AND THE SWEET

It’s officially Thanksgiving Day, literally a day to be thankful. “Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” – William Arthur Ward

I really think that the root of joy is gratitude, and developing an attitude of gratitude is one of the simplest ways to improve your satisfaction with life. This wonderful quote from Russell M. Nelson supports my thought: “Does gratitude spare us from sorrow, sadness, grief, and pain? No, but it does soothe our feelings. It provides us with a greater perspective on the very purpose and joy of life.”

Love that.

So . . . if you want some soothing for your soul, be grateful. If you want a better perspective in life, be grateful. If you want some joy in your life, be grateful. And - if you want to change the challenges in your life into blessings, be grateful.

In short, when life is sweet, say thank you and celebrate. When life is bitter, say thank you and grow.

Happy Thanksgiving! Have a lovely day filled with thankful thoughts. God bless you all.

TGIF

TGIF. I think most people think these letters stand for, “Thank goodness it’s Friday”. However, I think that the last six years have taught us to be more creative, resilient, compassionate, and . . . fierce.

Being fierce means standing your ground when the going gets tough. Someone who is fierce looks their challenges in the eye and winks even when they’re scared spitless. A person who is fierce is always looking to better themselves and the world around them. And when you're fierce, you respect yourself - and your limits. Being fierce does NOT, however, mean winning through intimidation.

In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare wrote, “Though she be but little, she is fierce.” What exactly did he mean? In my never-to-be-humble opinion, I believe he meant that every single day we show our strong, courageous spirit and can choose to be fierce. Fiercely kind, fiercely loyal, fiercely unique; there a million wonderful ways to be fierce. And kids, I am so ready to choose to be fierce today, tomorrow, and forever.

TGIF: Thank goodness I’m fierce.

My friends, have a fierce weekend.

HALFWAY THERE

There seems to be a world apart between Wednesday and Sunday. As much as we would wish for the two days to be equally upbeat and happy, sometimes the painful truth is that while Sunday is all about freedom and fun, Wednesday is the victim of responsibilities and work.

But here’s a thought.

Did you ever think that Wednesday mornings are as full of possibilities and chances as any other morning? Even though it’s in the middle of the week, Wednesday can be a beginning all on its own. We should allow ourselves at least a bit of spontaneity and at least a few minutes of freedom, to welcome new stories and new things into our daily routine.

I think the thing that we need the most on Wednesday is a good dose of inspiration to keep us focused, whenever our mind wanders towards the promises of the Le Weekend. More than inspiration, however, we need to work just a little bit harder and smarter to keep things moving forward.

On Wednesday, when the sky is blue,
and I have nothing else to do,
I sometimes wonder if it’s true
That who is what and what is who. – Winnie the Pooh

Even though Wednesday is in the middle of the week, there is no reason why we shouldn’t enjoy it the max. Simple things such as eating your lunch under a clear, blue sky, a few minutes of peace and calm, and a job that we’ve done well can brighten and lighten our mood.

Reverend Ike said, “I’ve heard of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but I’ve never heard of Someday.” Exactly! There is nothing worse for our happiness than keep postponing things we want to do, waiting for a better moment. The best moment to start working on our dreams is today – right now - even if today is a regular, ordinary Wednesday. Even ho-hum Wednesday is better than someday or later.

Yes, kids, it may be true that Wednesdays are like Monday in the middle of the week. But – SMILE!

We’re halfway to Friday.

I know some of you woke up this morning moaning, “Oh no! Friday seems like it was only 9 minutes ago. What happened?! And now (cue ominous music) it’s MONDAY!!!!!”

Really? C’mon people. It’s Monday, not Doomsday. New Monday. New week. New goals.

Monday is for the go-getters. Zig Ziglar said, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” Hmmm. Love that!

So make this Mondayest Monday that every Mondayed.

# Monslay. Just tell yourself, I’m alive, motivated, determined, and ready to SLAY THE DAY!

START NOW

It’s Friday. It’s the end of the working week. Maybe you accomplished a lot this week, but maybe you didn’t, so you tell yourself, I’ll wait until next week to tackle my problems. Say, when things are better. Or when the timing is right. Or when they finally fall into place for me. Hmmm.

One of the snares that trap many of us is the idea that we have to wait until everything is perfectly in place before we start or complete something. The trouble with that, however, is that putting off what’s next can lead to bigger problems down the road. And the biggest problem is that you may never reach your full potential.

Sometimes we actually do have to wait for something to come about before our project can come to fruition, but less face it kids, many times we’re putting things off by making excuses. I’m as guilty of the folly of procrastination as the next person.

So next time you want to do something but find yourself hanging back because you’re “not quite ready”, or because you’re waiting for whatever other excuse you can manufacture because you’re actually nervous or anxious about it (whew – what a mouthful), consider taking a risk and just going for it. JUST GO FOR IT! Procrastination can cause you to lose momentum, or when something will come up that keeps you from accomplishing your goal.

So start now.

Not tomorrow
Not when the weather is right
Not when you feel inspired
Not when you get your mojo back
Not when your vacation is over
Not when your horoscope is perfect
Not when you have money
And not when there are more people to hear what you have to say . . .

Start. Right. Now.
If not now, WHEN?

YOUR NUTRITIONAL BANK ACCOUNT

Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” I love that so much it’s hanging in my office foyer.

How’s your nutrition? You really are what you eat. And you need to eat for the body you want, not the body you have. You know, those who think they have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness. And – healthy eating does not have to be boring, and doesn’t mean starving yourself. EVER. Healthy means eating the right food in the right amount.

Look on your diet as a bank account. Good food choices are good investments. If you’re realizing that your nutritional bank account is almost bankrupt, contact us today at Touchstone Health (https://touchstonehealthcalgary.com) and we’ll work with you to get you back on the road to healthy and happy.

And so, to summarize:

Eat crappy. Feel crappy.
Eat healthy. Feel healthy.

LIVE TO THE POINT OF TEARS

It’s Monday and I am grateful that I can go to work.

I am extremely grateful for the principle of work. Everyone – and I mean everyone – needs to have something in their lives that they are passionate about. For me (other than that cute guy I’ve been married to for 36+ years and my wonderful family), that is my holistic practice (Touchstone Health). I am continually grateful that while so many businesses had to close during the chaos that was Covid, I was able to remain open. I was okay, because I can and still do consultations online or by phone and have done for years, but there’s just something about interacting in person with a client that is (I’m searching for the right word) …. MAGICAL! Yes, that’s the word, magical.

Working, whether paid or unpaid, is good for our health and well-being. It contributes to our happiness, helps us to build confidence and self-esteem, and let’s face it, can reward us financially. I’m so sorry that many have lost their employment, but hopefully things are turning around, and better days will be ahead in the not-too-distant future. Let’s all pray for that.

A dear friend gave me a magnet years ago which sits on the front of the filing cabinet in my office. It has a quote on it by Albert Camus which says, “Live to the point of tears.” A few clients have asked me if that meant they’re supposed to be weeping every day. I explained that the complete quote is, “Men must live and create. Live to the point of tears.” I take it to mean that you need to have some “thing” – that one thing - in your life that makes you want to get out of bed every day, something that you’re passionate about, something that you love to do. And whatever that “thing” is, give it your all.

So, today I am thankful for my work, and I can say my love for it - and my clients and all I learn from them - helps me to “live to the point of tears”.

One more thing. To quote David Ogilvy, “Men die of boredom, psychological conflict, and disease. They do not die of hard work.”

Hmmm.
