The Mama Coach I lead a global team of RNs & NPs committed to caring for women and families. My name is Carrie and I founded The Mama Coach in 2015. Why wouldn't he sleep?

If you are looking for evidence-informed support with women’s health, pregnancy, newborns, sleep, parenting, and/or potty training please reach out ➡️ We can't wait to help! I have personally been working with moms and babies as a Registered Nurse since 2005 during my time in labour, delivery, and postpartum as well as in private practice. After having my first son in 2008, I was privy to all of the challenges that coincide with parenthood. I never expected to have a baby with multiple allergies, colic, and major sleep issues. It took time to gain the skills and confidence to effectively manage my role as a new parent. After getting his allergies under control, the next big challenge was sleep. After months and months of sleepless nights, I found a solution that finally brought rest to my boy. It was life-changing for the whole family! I realized I wasn't the only mom struggling with children and sleep issues and wanted to share my perspectives as a health professional with other families. Your baby is unique as is your parenting style. Our global team of Registered Nurses, Lactation Consultants, and Nurse Practitioners will acknowledge your specific goals and help find solutions for your family. We are committed to providing evidence-informed education, without judgment to help make parenthood easier. Please reach out to the Mama Coach nearest you if you are struggling - we can help! https://themamacoach.com/coaches-landing-page/

Being told your labs are “normal” doesn't always mean there's nothing more to explore.

Lab results are one piece of the picture. Your symptoms, medical history, life stage, and overall health matter, too.

As a Family Nurse Practitioner and Menopause Society Certified Provider, I look at how those pieces fit together.

Sometimes that means taking a closer look at existing results, considering whether further evaluation is appropriate, or exploring treatment and lifestyle options based on your individual needs.

Because you deserve more than a quick look at a number. You deserve a thoughtful assessment of what you're experiencing.

Ready to better understand your symptoms and explore your options?
Book a consultation, and let's look at the bigger picture.

Jamie Sustakoski, RN, FNP-BC, MSCP, is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Menopause Society Certified Provider based in Coastal Virginia. She helps women navigate hormonal changes, menopause, and midlife health through individualized assessment and personalized care plans. Jamie also offers virtual care in select states.

Feeling frustrated about your milk supply? 😣

If you're looking to increase the amount you can pump or you're worried about your milk supply, power pumping may be one tool worth exploring.

Power pumping involves a series of shorter pumping sessions designed to mimic periods of frequent feeding and encourage milk production over time.

It can be especially helpful to learn about when you're preparing to return to work and figuring out how pumping will fit into your day.

I wish I'd known about it sooner during my own breastfeeding journey!

But here's something important: pumping output doesn't always reflect how much milk you're producing, and power pumping isn't necessary or effective for everyone.

If you're concerned about your supply, it's worth looking at the bigger picture, including feeding patterns, pump fit, milk removal, and your baby's growth.

🌱 Want to learn more about pumping and bottle feeding?
Sign up for my private Pumping, Bottle Feeding, & Formula Workshop! We'll focus on practical information and strategies that fit your feeding goals.

Lindsay Schartz, BSN, RN, CPN, HWNC-BC, CPT, PN1-NC, MSCP, is a Registered Nurse with 16 years of pediatric nursing experience based in the Denver-Metro area of Colorado. 🧐 One myth I continue to bust is “ni**le confusion.”

If your combo-fed baby is starting to refuse the breast, it doesn't necessarily mean they're confused. 👇🏼

Sometimes, it's about the difference in milk flow and how your baby has learned to feed.

👉🏼 Think of it this way: If you're REALLY hungry, do you want to put a bunch of effort and energy into making a meal, or do you want something fast and easy?

🍼 Depending on the bottle ni**le and feeding technique, milk may flow faster or more consistently from a bottle than from the breast. Some babies develop a preference for that flow.

But breast refusal isn't always about the bottle. Milk transfer, latch, feeding experiences, and other factors can play a role, too.

So rather than assuming your baby is confused, it's worth looking at what's actually happening during feeds.

🌱 If you're struggling with feeding at the breast, bottle, or both, book your In-Home Feeding Support Visit. We can assess what's happening and create a plan that works for you and your baby.

Menopause before age 45—or menopause caused by surgery—is more than an early end to your menstrual cycles.

Because estrogen levels decline sooner, or sometimes more suddenly, women may experience significant menopausal symptoms and face increased long-term risks to their bone and cardiovascular health.

Professional guidelines recommend discussing menopausal hormone therapy with your healthcare provider when it's safe and appropriate, particularly when menopause occurs earlier than expected.

This doesn't mean hormone therapy is right for everyone. Your medical history, symptoms, and individual risk factors all matter.

The earlier you understand your options, the better equipped you are to make informed decisions about your long-term health.

💛 Early menopause deserves early support.

Hey you! I see you and I get it.

You’re busy. You’re tired. You’re noticing your body changing.

Maybe your cholesterol has crept up.
Maybe your doctor has mentioned blood pressure.
Maybe the weight around your middle feels different than it used to.

Here’s what no one told us: Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women and our risk increases after menopause when estrogen declines.

This is why I lift.
This is why I eat the protein!
This is why I encourage women in midlife to build muscle.

Not to be smaller. Not to chase a number on a scale. But to protect their hearts for the next 30-40 years.

Muscle improves insulin sensitivity. It helps manage cholesterol. It reduces visceral fat. It supports metabolic health. And metabolic health is heart health!

If you’re not sure where to start or you’ve been told to just ‘eat less and walk more’ - you deserve better guidance than that. My 1:1 Menopause Navigation sessions are built for women exactly like you.

Because midlife isn’t the beginning of decline. It’s your opportunity to build your strongest chapter yet.

From changes in your periods to unexpected fatigue, perimenopause can bring questions you weren’t expecting.

Swipe through for seven signs that may be associated with perimenopause. These changes don’t confirm perimenopause on their own, so it’s worth discussing symptoms rather than assuming they’re all hormonal.

If you’re unsure about what you’re experiencing, you don’t have to work it out alone. I can help you explore your questions and options for support.

Breastfeeding can feel like a giant question mark, especially in those early days.

Here are some reassuring signs to look at together:
🤱🏻 Feeding is comfortable, without ongoing pain, cracked ni**les, or bleeding. Persistent pain deserves assessment rather than something you have to push through.
🤍 You can see and hear your baby swallowing during feeds.
🤱🏻 Your breasts feel softer after feeding.
🤱🏻 From day five onwards, your baby has at least six heavy wet nappies in 24 hours, with stool patterns appropriate for their age.

🤍 Your baby’s weight is progressing as expected, and they’re generally content after most feeds and alert when awake.

Frequent clicking, coughing, or sputtering during feeds is also worth discussing in a feeding assessment. No single sign tells us the whole story.

If you’re unsure, it doesn’t mean you’re failing. You deserve support, and you don’t have to figure it out alone.

For fewer wet nappies than expected, poor weight gain, or unusual sleepiness, seek prompt advice from your baby’s healthcare provider rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
