A Question I Often Ask Someone Who Says, “I Know I Can Do This…”
If you know you can do something, but something still seems to get in the way, I might ask:
“What happens inside you when you imagine actually doing it?”
The answer can be revealing.
Perhaps there is excitement.
Perhaps there is doubt.
Perhaps there is a very specific fear.
Perhaps there is simply an uncomfortable feeling that is difficult to put into words.
That internal response is worth paying attention to.
We can spend a great deal of time trying to push ourselves past uncomfortable feelings.
Sometimes it is more useful to become curious about them.
Curiosity can take us somewhere that criticism and self-pressure cannot.
