👁️ What Will Eye Care Look Like in 2035?
If someone told you 20 years ago that a phone could recognize your face or translate languages instantly, you might not have believed them.
The future of eye care may be just as remarkable.
By 2035, here's what we could see:
▪︎ Artificial Intelligence (AI) helping eye care professionals detect diseases like glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration earlier than ever before.
▪︎ Smart contact lenses that may one day monitor eye pressure, deliver medication, or even track certain health conditions.
▪︎ Home eye monitoring, allowing some patients to perform parts of their eye tests from home and securely share results with their eye care provider.
▪︎ Gene therapy and regenerative medicine, offering hope to people with certain inherited eye diseases and other conditions that were once considered untreatable.
▪︎ More personalized treatments, where advances in genetics and imaging help tailor care to each individual patient.
But here's what I don't think will change...
The relationship between you and your eye care professional.
Technology will become an incredibly powerful tool, but it won't replace the clinical judgment, experience, and human connection that are essential to delivering quality eye care.
The future of eye care isn't about replacing eye doctors...
It's about giving them better tools to detect disease earlier, treat it more effectively, and help more people preserve their sight.
The next decade could transform how we protect one of our most precious senses.
