On the next new moon in Scorpio, Rest, Release, Receive, is a workshop that is more about being than doing.

With a busy October coming to a close and the energy shifting for November, it is a great time to slow down and tune in.

We will move through gentle practices, space for reflection, an exploration of burnout and the importance of rest, movement as medicine, and yoga nidra for seep supported rest.

This coming new moon is the perfect opportunity to carve out some time for rest on a Sunday and join us in Campbell River.

It will be a deep remembering that there is power in rest to sustain productivity and have energy for a busy life.

“Life’s under no obligation to give us what we expect.”
Margaret Mitchell

I saw this quote in Breathe magazine, The Power of Less, during the retreat, Settling Into Rest, I hosted this past weekend, and I’ve held it close ever since.

There was so much planning, organizing, and prepping beforehand. And yet, it wasn’t what I expected.

Moments of beauty.
Moments of discomfort.
Moments of questioning.
Moments of ease.
Moments of connection.
Moments of solitude.

I'm realising that holding space for rest is very different than having a full schedule of activities planned, and as the weekend went on, I found myself wondering: Had I done enough? Was it full enough? Was there enough space for everyone to settle?

But rest isn’t about doing enough. It’s about slowing down, giving ourselves space to be, and receiving each moment as it comes, even when it doesn’t arrive the way we planned.

I’m learning to let go of my expectations. And as I integrate the weekend, I can see how the way it all unfolded was its own kind of beautiful, in every single moment.

For anyone who plans carefully for something they care about, can you relate? I'd love to hear what speaks to you from this post in the comments if you feel called to share.

Two things have surprised me about choosing a slower paced life.

The first is that my life still feels full, even though my schedule isn’t packed back to back anymore.

The second is that my to do list still gets done, even when I don’t rush through it each day. I give myself grace around how and when I complete each item.

It wasn’t always this way. I used to believe I needed a full schedule to feel like I had a full life. Going out every night, staying busy all weekend, and making sure my to do list was as clear as it could be by the end of each day. It was exhausting.

When I started to lean into slowing down and making space in my schedule, I expected things to feel emptier, or like I was falling behind. Instead, life still feels full, and things still get done.

There is another way to live beyond the rush, and for me, a slower pace is definitely the way to go.

If you’re curious, I invite you to try slowing down, even just 5% this weekend. Maybe that’s doing one less thing on your list, or a morning with no plans. Notice what it feels like.

If you’d like more gentle reminders like this, I’d love to have you follow along.

My schedule has been very full lately, and after really busy days, like yesterday, there is a tiredness there the next morning.

I used to read that as a problem. Now I know tired is what effort leaves behind. As I’m giving a lot of effort to build a business I want to see succeed, it means I have days where I can be tired.

That knowing gives me permission to slow down, lean into rest, and trust that the tiredness will shift.

And if it doesn’t, that’s information too. It’s a sign depletion may have set in, and that my days are asking for more pause.

This is the balance I’m learning as things fill up.

Full days are allowed.
So is the rest that follows them.

How do you recover after a full day?

The other day I woke up feeling off. Nothing was exactly wrong, my body just felt uncomfortable.

Rather than pushing myself through a gym session, I gave it what I felt it needed: the sauna, a good cry, and sharing how I felt with a friend.

Afterwards, I realised that by slowing down vs pushing through, it gave me more clarity.

My capacity was expanding with new work, and new experiences. All of it good, but sometimes new things, even when good, can take some adjustment.

Growth can feel like discomfort before it feels like ease. Rest, tears, and a trusted friend made space for my body to catch up.

Has your body ever told you something before your mind caught up?

"Overplanning kills magic".

This card says it so simply.

When every hour is accounted for, there's very little room left for the unexpected, the spontaneous, the moment that wasn't on the calendar.

Planning can feel safe. You know what is coming and you can prepare for it. But it can also quietly close the door on the things we couldn't have scheduled for, even if we tried.

Magic can need a little open space to arrive.

October is a pretty magical month with the leaves changing and Samhain/Halloween approaching.

Where could you leave some space in your calendar this month? Some room for magic to seep in? ✨🌟✨

This past week looked a little different around here, with fewer posts than usual.

I travelled to a conference in Victoria, and the first few days were full in a way my normal week usually isn't.

Sometimes a full schedule can quietly stop registering as heavy, even while it still is. Getting caught up in the go-go-go.

This week was a real example of that for me. I said yes to a packed few days without fully clocking how much I was asking of myself, until I got home.

That's when I felt it, a tiredness that was from more than travel. I recognized it quickly, as that kind of tiredness is now a signal for me. It usually means my body gave more in the first half of the week than it normally does, and it's asking for something back.

I'm genuinely grateful to know this about myself now. It meant I didn't have to keep moving at that pace to prove anything. I had space to slow down in the back half of the week, and I took it.

This is what intentional rest actually looks like in real life. Not a perfectly balanced schedule, just catching the moment a full week quietly became a heavy one, and trusting the signal enough to respond.

Does a full schedule ever sneak up on you the same way?

Rest can look the same from the outside and feel completely different depending on what's behind it. There's the rest you fall into because your body finally forced you to rest, and there's the rest you choose, on purpose, before you've run out of steam.

The first kind often comes with some relief, but it can still feel thin, like you're only catching up rather than actually being filled. The second tends to land differently. When rest is intentional, your body isn't scrambling to recover; it's allowed to actually receive it.

I'd love to know: how do you intentionally rest? Drop it in the comments; maybe you will spark some inspiration for someone today.

Reading from The Book of Awakening by Mark Nepo each day is part of my morning ritual. It's a little pocket of time I give myself to slow down and reflect before the busyness of the day begins.

This morning's reading, "Facing Sacred Moments", really stayed with me, enough that I wanted to share it here. Specifically this passage:

"The opening of doors into the life we already have."

How often do we spend our time trying to get somewhere else?
A goal.
A different version of ourselves.
A life where things feel a little easier.

And while there is nothing wrong with wanting change and striving for things in life, I wonder what we miss when we're always focused on what's next.

What if rest could offer us the space to meet the life we're already living? To pause, breathe, and notice. To be present to what is here, rather than always needing to move beyond it.

I don't think rest means we stop growing or changing. But perhaps it gives us the space to listen, reconnect, and discover what we need along the way.

This is one of the reasons I value creating space for rest. Not simply to step away from life, but to give ourselves the opportunity to be present within it.

This was a gentle reminder for me today, and perhaps for you, too.

What would it look like to give yourself permission to simply be where you are today?

The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have, by Mark Nepo. Full passage of today and a guided reflective meditation from the book on slides 4 & 5.
