Many parents wonder whether a palatal expander will hurt their child.
Most children experience pressure, tightness or mild soreness, particularly after the expander is adjusted. Speaking and eating may also feel different at first, but these changes usually become easier as your child adapts.
Soft foods, proper cleaning and carefully following the orthodontist’s instructions can make the adjustment period more comfortable.
Severe or persistent pain is not something to ignore. Contact your orthodontic team so they can check the appliance and keep your child comfortable.
