Meet our new CPAS Vice-President, Dr. Sally Bird! 👋

👩🏼‍⚕️ 🏊🏻‍♀️ ⚓️ A pediatric anesthesiologist and artistic swimmer based in Halifax, Sally shares a little about herself and her priorities for the next two years:

Hi, I am Sally Bird, your new VP. I am a Pediatric Anesthesiologist at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, NS. I love working with our team and our patients in the perioperative setting. In my personal time, I have joined a beginning artistic swimming team which has brought an untold amount of joy and hilarity into my life!

⚡️My major goals for the next 2 years are to support the goals of our president and to develop stronger ties to our colleagues caring for children outside of the tertiary care pediatric centres.

Welcome to your new role, Dr. Bird! 💙

Meet our new CPAS President, Dr. Conor Mc Donnell! 👋

We’re delighted to welcome Conor to his new role. Here he is in his own words—with plans for the next two years and a glimpse of the poet behind the physician.

Hi, I’m Conor Mc Donnell, your new President (though I prefer to be referred to as El Jeffe). By day I am a mild-mannered pediatric anesthesiologist at SickKids Hospital, Toronto.
By night I change to my alter ego of poet/punch-drunk philosopher.

My major goals for the next 2 years are to:

🤝 Increase attachments to other international societies (already underway through collaborative work with APAGBI on the Oxford 2028 meeting, and SPA and other societies on the Executive Organizing Committee for the International Assembly in London, UK, in 2029).

🫂 Create small, flexible, collaborative interest groups to examine and establish our positions/work in EDI, Environment & Conservation, Career & Longevity.

🌍 Increase funding / philanthropy for projects such as CPAS African Fellowship.

🥳 Cajole an amazing VP (Sally Bird) to join the team to smoothly pick up the baton and run with it from 2028 until 2030.

English version follows⬇️.

A day filled with science, reflection, and, above all, humanity.

From advances in monitoring and pain management to questions that go far beyond technique: how we teach, advance equity, recognize secondary traumatic stress, and better care for those who care for others.

Inspiring, thoughtful, and genuinely sincere presentations were followed by hands-on workshops that brought ideas into practice, from POCUS to hypnosis and pediatric regional anesthesia.

A huge thank you to the organizing team, scientific committee, speakers, moderators, workshop faculty, and everyone working behind the scenes to make this meeting possible.

What a way to begin CPAS 2026.
