Thank you to all who joined us last night at The Great Hall in Wi******er for an evening where medics and new Friends came together to hear more about what we do. It was a wonderful opportunity for local doctors and clinicians to showcase some of the innovative equipment that we have funded over recent years and for everyone to be able to ask questions and see it firsthand.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a global campaign we are always keen to support. 🩷 Held every October, this campaign raises vital awareness about breast cancer, promoting early detection and supporting people affected by the disease.

Over the last five years, the Hampshire Medical Fund is proud to have funded several pieces of equipment for our breast cancer departments across our local hospitals which is an area where we hope to make a greater contribution. Our upcoming Christmas Fair in November is raising funds to buy a BD EleVation™ Vacuum-Assisted Breast Biopsy (VABB) System for the Breast Radiology department at Basingstoke hospital.

When a patient presents with a suspicious breast lesion, a biopsy is essential to determine whether it is benign or cancerous. Diagnosis is critical and the BD EleVation™ system represents a significant advancement in breast diagnostics. Using vacuum suction combined with a cutting needle, the system removes a larger, higher quality tissue samples through a single insertion. This improves diagnostic accuracy, reduces the need for repeat biopsies, and enhances the overall patient experience including reduced anxiety. By enabling faster, more reliable diagnoses, the BD EleVation™ system will benefit approximately 400 patients each year across HHFT, with numbers expected to rise as referrals increase.

Our ability to fund such cutting edge equipment that NHS budgets cannot cover, ensures that our local hospitals and clinicians here in Hampshire are able to offer the very best care to patients in our community.

We were delighted to receive this photo of the Wi******er hospital stroke rehabilitation team with their new Fourier M2 advanced robotic workstation, recently funded by the Hampshire Medical Fund. This new machine is an advanced neuro-rehabilitation device that combines robotics and gamification to deliver intensive, repetitive, task-specific arm therapy, helping stroke patients regain independence faster and transforming long-term recovery outcomes.

Strokes are currently the leading cause of adult disability in the UK and up to 80 per cent of stroke survivors experience reduced arm function. With 955 stroke admissions to Wi******er hospital last year, this new piece of equipment has the potential to improve recovery and outcomes for hundreds of patients annually in our local area.

Steve Williams, CLINICAL LEAD FOR STROKE AND ADVANCED PRACTISE PHYSIOTHERAPIST says: “We know that intensive rehabilitation involving high-quality, repetitive upper limb practice drives recovery after stroke. The Fourier M2 has genuinely transformed stroke rehabilitation, helping patients regain independence, return home sooner, and, ultimately, get back to the things that matter most to them. Stroke can be an isolating and emotionally challenging experience and what has surprised us most is the impact of the equipment beyond physical recovery. It has improved patients; confidence, lifted their spirits, increased engagement with rehabilitation, and brought a sense of enjoyment and optimism into what is a very challenging journey”.

“The impact has also been felt by our staff, boosting morale, strengthening our service, and helping position Wi******er as a pioneering centre for stroke
rehabilitation”.
