In May, the Dibble family received the news that Sue, a much-loved mum, nanny and the heart of their family, had pancreatic cancer.

Since her diagnosis, they have focused on creating special memories together, enjoying weekly walks and a trip to Sue’s favourite place, the Isles of Scilly. Together, Sue’s family and friends took on the RUHX Glow Run this month as a way of saying thank you to the cancer services supporting Sue through her treatment, raising an incredible £470 for the RUH Bath!

“We know how proud Sue will be, and we hope this becomes another memory everyone can treasure,” says family friend Katie. Thank you, our October champions! ✨

🤖✨ 1,000 lives changed through robotic surgery at the RUH... and counting!

What started with one patient, one operation and one very long day in theatre has grown into something truly remarkable.

To see a surgical robot up close you can sign up to attend our celebration event, on the morning of the 5th November. Just click the link in comments and choose the morning sessions that have spaces left!

Thanks to the generosity of RUHX supporters, the RUH's first da Vinci surgical robot arrived in 2023 following a £2.3 million fundraising campaign. Robotic surgery can mean:

✅ Smaller incisions
✅ Fewer complications
✅ Reduced hospital stays
✅ Faster recovery
✅ Quicker return to everyday life

As Consultant Colorectal & Robotic Surgeon Marc Bullock pus it: "A thousand people who've had their surgery this way feels less like a number and more like a thousand individual stories."

Thank you to everyone who made this milestone possible. Here's to the next thousand stories. 💙

💙 A lovely thank you for Selina in our Eye Unit

We’re always delighted to see members of the RUH team recognised through the RUHX My Thank You scheme.

Selina, who works in the Eye Unit, recently received this wonderful message from a grateful patient:

💬 “Selina was so lovely, highly professional, knowledgeable and very caring. Thank you so much for being an Earth Angel.”

What a special way to say thank you. 💙 Link in comments.... to add your thank you.....

Sometimes, the best way to learn is by doing. 💙

New realistic wound care models are making training more hands-on for staff at the RUH, helping them practise wound assessments, skin inspections and dressing techniques in a safe learning environment.

The models come in a variety of skin tones too, helping staff feel more confident caring for different patients.

As one member of staff told us: “They’re a great resource, bringing wound care to life and making the sessions hands-on and interactive.”

Thanks to your support, RUHX can help give hospital staff the tools they need to keep learning and providing extrordinary care for patients.

The Glow Run was made possible with help from our local community 💖

We want to say a BIG thank you to Luxlync for providing all of our Glow Runners with an LED wristband to wear, Tom and Dom from PureGym Bath Victoria Park and PureGym Bath Spring Wharf for hosting both of the warm ups, and of course our incredible volunteers who marshalled the route, cheered on runners, helped to sell merch, and so much more.

You are all extraordinary!
