You don’t have to start again.
You just have to start where you are. 💙

I haven’t posted here for a little while. Life became busy, and Restore Move Thrive had to become something I practised—not simply something I talked about.

Because progress isn’t linear.

There are times to challenge yourself, build capacity and move forward.

And there are times to slow down, regulate, restore and give your body what it needs.

That’s exactly why the five-stage approach exists:

1. Regulate
2. Flow
3. Fuel
4. Learn to Move
5. Move and Perform

The right place to begin isn’t determined by what you think you should be doing. It’s determined by what your body needs today.

You haven’t failed because you paused.

Notice where you are, choose the support you need and take the next step from there. 💙

Where does your body need you to begin today?

A feather can only travel when the water beneath it moves.

Your body also depends on movement beneath the surface.

🩸 Blood flow carries oxygen and nutrients to your tissues.

🫁 Breathing brings oxygen in and allows carbon dioxide to leave.

💧 Lymphatic flow helps return excess fluid and substances your body no longer needs so they can be processed and removed.

You can eat well, hydrate, rest and train—but your body must still be able to transport those resources to where they’re needed.

That’s why Flow is Stage 2 of the Restore Move Thrive approach. Before we ask the body to do more, we consider whether it can effectively deliver what it needs and move on what it no longer needs.

No flow = no receive or remove.

Save this post as a reminder that sometimes the answer isn’t adding more—it’s helping what’s already there to move. 💙

Yesterday I was in “go” mode from 8am until I finally sat down at 9.40pm.

Back-to-back work, business meetings, the kids’ clubs, horses, appointments, then more clubs. By the time I got home, I was still mentally running through the day.

This morning needed a different pace: a coffee, some time in the sauna and a slower start. ☕💙

That’s what I mean by Regulate. Your system needs to rise to meet demand, but it also needs the chance to come back down afterwards.

Today, I’m giving mine that chance.

After a full-on day, can you switch off easily, or does your mind keep going?

If it can’t flow, it can’t get where it’s needed. 💙

And if it can’t move away, the body can’t keep things circulating as they should.

That’s why Flow is Stage 2 of Restore Move Thrive.

Breath, blood and lymph each have a different job, but they work together. Breathing exchanges gases. Blood delivers oxygen and nutrients. Lymph returns excess fluid from the tissues.

You can focus on food, training or recovery, but you also need to consider how your body moves and delivers what it needs. That’s why I look at the systems together, then build towards movement.

Paddleboarding is one way I enjoy putting movement and breath into practice. Yours might be walking, dancing or something else entirely.

What movement makes you feel good? 💙

Do you struggle to come down—or struggle to get going? 💙

Your nervous system needs to respond when life asks more of you. That might mean becoming more alert to ride a trail, handle a busy day or solve a problem. Afterwards, you need room to settle and recover.

When that shift feels difficult, you might notice two very different patterns:

Hard to come down: feeling on edge, replaying scenarios, wide-eyed and alert, or reacting more strongly than you’d like.

Hard to get going: low energy, feeling like you can’t be bothered, tired even after rest, or finding little satisfaction in things.

You might recognise one pattern—or move between both. These experiences can have different causes, so a list can’t tell you what’s happening in your body.

Stage 1: Regulate is about being able to respond to demand, then recover. It isn’t about staying calm all the time.

The drill isn’t the goal. The movement that matters to you is. 💙

For me, that might mean feeling confident on a bike trail. For you, it could be walking without hesitation, playing with your children, returning to running, lifting weights or getting back to a sport you love.

In Stage 4, we explore how your eyes, inner ear and body awareness help guide movement. We build control, then practise using those systems together.

Stage 5: Move is where we take that work into your life. We build strength, conditioning and confidence around the movements you want to do, adding challenge as you’re ready.

Train the systems. Integrate the movement. Build capacity.

What movement would you love to feel more confident doing? Tell me below or DM MOVE.

What if the movement feels difficult because your brain needs clearer information? 💙

Every movement follows a loop:

Input → Interpretation → Output → Feedback

👀 Vision helps your brain map what’s around you and where you’re going.

🌀 Your inner ear continually reports head movement and orientation. It matters when you walk, turn, jump, land and steady your gaze.

🦵 Body awareness reports where your joints are and how they’re moving—through your whole body, not just your feet.

Your brain brings that information together to guide movement. As you move, these systems report what changed, helping your brain adjust the next movement.

When an input is unclear or difficult to use, the body may slow down, tighten or guard to feel more stable. Repeating the movement harder doesn’t always resolve that response.

This is why Stage 4: Learn to Move matters. We explore the visual, vestibular and proprioceptive systems, use joint mapping to build control, and retest what changes. Then we bring the systems together in functional movement.

That gives Stage 5: Move a stronger foundation for building strength, speed and confidence.

Do you notice yourself bracing when you turn your head, move over uneven ground or try to control a particular joint?
