ARFID is not simply about being a fussy eater.

Two children with ARFID may experience food and eating in completely different ways.

For one child, it may be the taste, smell or texture of food. For another, an overwhelming fear of choking or being sick. Another may experience very little interest in eating or struggle to recognise hunger.

And importantly, these experiences can overlap.

Understanding why a child is struggling with food is essential to providing the right support.

ARFID is a recognised eating disorder, not a behavioural choice.
