✨ WHERE DO WE HOLD OUR ENERGY? ✨
PART 3
Our physical experiences, emotions and spiritual wellbeing are deeply interconnected parts of our human experience.
Through the lens of holistic wellbeing, the chakra system offers us a beautiful framework for exploring this connection — inviting us to reflect on safety, emotions, self-worth, love, expression, intuition and spiritual connection.
As we explore each chakra, looking at the areas of the body associated with it, the emotional themes it represents, and how Reiki, mindful touch and intuitive awareness can support us in reconnecting with ourselves ✨️
THE ROOT CHAKRA: Where safety begins ❤️
Before we can fully relax into life, we need to feel that we have somewhere to stand.
Somewhere we belong.
Something that grounds us.
A sense that we can meet the world without constantly bracing ourselves against it.
The root chakra, traditionally associated with the base of the spine, legs and feet, represents our foundations: safety, stability, belonging and our relationship with the physical world.
When life feels uncertain, we may notice ourselves becoming restless, tense or constantly alert.
We may struggle to switch off, even when there is nothing immediate demanding our attention.
Our bodies can respond to stress in many ways, trauma can stay in the physical body especially in the lower back.
Am I allowing myself to rest?
Do I feel supported?
Am I living in a constant state of anticipation, waiting for something to go wrong?
From a Reiki perspective, grounding offers an opportunity to slow down, become present and reconnect with a sense of steadiness.
Through mindful touch, gentle massage and intentional stillness, we can create space to notice our bodies rather than continually pushing through their needs.
Spiritually, the root chakra reminds us that we cannot always control the ground beneath our feet, but we can learn to meet ourselves with greater care as we navigate uncertainty.
You do not have to have everything figured out to deserve peace.
You do not have to hold everything together to be strong.
Sometimes, the most healing thing we can do is return to the present moment and remind ourselves:
I am here. I can breathe. I am allowed to take up space. I am allowed to receive support.
Your reflection: What helps you feel grounded when life feels overwhelming? 🌿
THE SACRAL CHAKRA: Allowing yourself to feel 🧡
We are human beings with emotions, desires, creativity and an innate need for connection.
Yet so many of us have learned to suppress what we feel.
We minimise our sadness.
We feel guilty for our needs.
We judge ourselves for wanting more.
We become so accustomed to accommodating others that we lose touch with what brings us joy.
In the chakra tradition, the sacral chakra is associated with the lower abdomen and pelvis, and symbolically represents emotional flow, creativity, pleasure, intimacy and our relationship with desire.
It invites us to explore an important question:
Do I give myself permission to feel what I feel?
Emotions do not always arrive at convenient times. Sometimes we push them aside because life demands that we keep going. Sometimes we fear that if we allow ourselves to feel deeply, we may become overwhelmed.
But acknowledging an emotion is not the same as being consumed by it.
We can make room for sadness without becoming sadness.
We can recognise anger without allowing it to define us.
We can honour our desires without feeling ashamed of having needs.
Stress can also show up through physical sensations, including abdominal tension, painful hips, cramps.
Through Reiki, mindful awareness and appropriate, consensual massage, we can create space for relaxation, self-connection and gentleness.
We do not need to force an emotional release.
We can simply allow ourselves to be human.
To feel.
To create.
To receive pleasure.
To recognise our needs without apologising for them.
Your reflection: Where in your life might you be giving yourself permission to exist, but not permission to truly feel? 🌊
